Electric dryer will not heat, everything else is working

Unplug power cord & pull the back off and use ohm meter to
to check the heating element also check if the element is ground to the heater box. Check the thermal fuse, the cutout fuse & thermostat on the heater box. Check the operating thermostat and any others you see. Last check the centrifucal switch on the motor the heating wire goes through it. To check this switch connect ohm meter to terminals it will show open unless motor is running so take a screwdriver & lift up on switch button then it should show continuity. Hope this helps

Tip

Regular switching and switch loops

A switch loop is a technique that is often used in home wiring to cut back on wire used and to make the circuit less complicated. In a normal switching circuit power comes into the switch box with the white wires tied together and black wires on the switch and then continues to the lighting box where black is connected to black and white is connected to white. With a switch loop the power starts at the lighting box in the black wire that does not go to the switch. That black wire is connected to the white wire that goes out to the switch (note the white wire must be taped with a small piece of electrical tape to show that it is now a powered wire). At the switch both black and white wires must be connected to the switch (the white wire here must also be taped). So now back at the light box you should have two wires. A white wire from your incoming power cable and a black wire from your switch cable. Now all you need to do is tie black to the black of your light and white to the white of your light (note: if you have terminals, white goes to the silver terminal and black goes to the brass terminal.) The wiring is done in this manner because in electrical work black and white make a light, and the the colors are never mixed up because it allows the next person to diagnose any problems much easier.

Water heater heats water and then cuts off. I replaced the lower element with a guaranteed for life element. It still heats up and cuts off. There is a control box on top that allows for an easy reset. ...

1) Bad thermostat or thermistor depending on model.
Whirlpool/Craftmaster/American energy smart has control box on top, and you can order parts from Whirlpool.

2) Copy following links to help identify product.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-electric-problems-with-water-heater.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/Whirlpool-Energy-Smart-electric.html

3) Add a comment with more detailed information:
You have electric water heater.
Unknown brand, possibly energy-smart.
Unknown control box.
Cut off? Do you mean 'reset' is tripped?

4) Whirlpool energy smart requires 10 gauge wire and 30 amp breaker.
Control panel may not function with undersized electric supply.
Control panel has blinking-light errors ... if no error code then maybe the control box is bad.

Neptune dryer has power but will not spin.I hear a faint click comming from the left side. model#MDE9700AYM

An electric Neptune clothes dryer, like most electric clothes dryers, has two circuit breakers: one for the drum and another for the heating element. Both breakers need to be in the "on" position for it to run properly. Go to your main circuit box. Reset both of the dryer's circuit breakers to the "on" position. If one of the breakers trips again, there's a problem with the dryer component that it operates. Contact a dryer repair technician to evaluate the machine's condition.
The lid switch is a small latch located on the interior of the door frame on your Neptune clothes dryer. It keeps the door securely shut when the dryer's on to prevent injury should you open the door and reach inside while it's turning. If the lid switch becomes damaged, the dryer won't turn on even though its lights might work. Run your finger over the lid switch and listen for a clicking sound. If you don't hear a sound when the latch is compressed, it's faulty and needs to be swapped out.

The thermal cut-off is a heat-sensitive safety feature on a Neptune clothes dryer that shuts off the heating element if the dryer overheats. After it activates, it can't be reset; you must replace it. Until it's replaced, your dryer might only partially function, so while its lights might turn on, the dryer might not spin or heat. Don't exchange an old thermal cut-off for a new one until you first determine what promoted it to trip, otherwise your dryer likely will overheat again.

How do you connect the electric to wire bathroom lights on one switch, and the fan on the other switch, The power comes in through the switch, Both switches are located in the same box

In the box, connect all white wires together, that is the incoming power, the lights and the fan.
Then take the black supply wire and connect it to the bottom terminal of one of the switches and cut and install a jumper from that terminal to the bottom terminal of the other switch.
Next connect a black wire that goes to the light(s) to the top terminal of one of the switches. When this switch is turned on, power should flow from the supply thru the switch to the light.
Finally, connect another black wire that goes to the fan to the top terminal of the other switch. This will turn on the fan.
All ground or green wires connect together and the green terminal on each switch should have a piece of green wire to connect to all the other green ground wires.

My dryer does not heat up I pushed both reset buttons...

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Just to clarify your statement "dryer does not heat up I pushed both reset buttons..." are you referring to the hi limit cut out ( on the heater box ) and the emergency shut off switches ( next to the belt pulley ) you've reset already ?

examples

fb1f63c.jpg

I'll assume you are unless you say otherwise since you've also stated the dryer will indeed tumble just not heat, correct ?

Have you checked the heating element for continuity following the reset attempts ?

If not, that is where I'd direct your attention going forward. With the aid of an ohm meter or a multi-meter, place a lead on each element terminal and you should have continuity.

If you're uncertain about how to go about this, send me an email at macmarkus@live.ca and I can attach a short .wmv file approximately 3.5MB ( there is no audio and it is directly from Bosch ) on "how to".

I'll watch for your reply. Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

How do i reset the oven after a power failure?

If your oven won't heat at all, the most likely problem is a blown fuse or a burnt out element. Assuming you're not attempting to repair an antique, your oven will have a clock. If it has also stopped working, it's safe to assume the oven is not getting electricity. Check your circuit breaker box and reset the breaker if necessary and see if this fixes the problem. If not, cut power to the oven at the breaker box before going any further. Note that your oven runs on 220 volts. There should be a double switch on the circuit breaker board controlling power to it. If not, there will be two single switches that need to be tripped to cut power to the oven.
Even if you didn't find a blown circuit breaker, the problem could still be a blown fuse. Some older ovens have their own set of fuses located under the range top, in the back of the oven space, or behind the oven. Inspect the fuses and replace any that have blown with one of the same amperage. Your oven might also have a circuit breaker with a reset button on the control console or on top of the oven that needs to be reset.
If you are still confounded, pull the oven away from the wall. If it is a range/oven combo, make sure it is plugged securely into the wall. If it is a stand-alone oven, inspect the wiring in the junction box to make sure everything is tightly connected and the wiring doesn't show any signs of damage.

Dishwasher keeps cutting out

Has the door got heavier recently?
Mine had a spring break which fell onto the electrics and shorted them. Unplug and empty it, then tip it up to see if you can see a loose spring. If it is then replace or re-fit the old spring, I have posted instructions and pictures here:
