Question about Mongoose Butterfly Summer 12" Girl's Bike

2 Answers

My Mongoose "Gavel" BMX bike's rear wheel catches when I coast.

I already tried greasing the chain and wheel base, but I think that I have a similar problem. I think the tire needs to be loosened.

Has the bike been in an accident recently? you can flip it over and spin the back wheel to make sure that wheel is "on center". if the wheel is not bent then u can just unloosen the back wheel then re-align to the center and tighten.

When my son is coasting on his Scan R40 Mongoose bike he peddles in reverse and there is no normal clicking sound from the chain running over the sprockets, basically he wants that sound and this bike is...

That clicking is not caused by the chain. Some of the new freewheels are made to be silent. If he wants that sound he'll have to change the freewheel.

I cannot get my chain to stop coming off. How do I keep the chain from slipping off?

Loosen the nut that holds the back wheel and pull it back until the chain is tight and then retighten the nut. If when the chain is tight, the wheel is not on the rear frame, you need to take a link out of the chain.

Huffy boys bike makes clicking noise

does it make the "clicking" noise when coasting, pedaling or both? If it is only when pedaling, check to make sure the cranks are not rubbing on a chain guard or hitting the frame, if not then the chain is probably too tight and it is the gear cog teeth meshing with the tight chain. Loosen the rear axle nuts and slide the rear wheel forward slightly, this should take care of it. If the noise happens while coasting then one of the wheels could be rubbing on the frame intermittently, or the hub bearings could be too tight (also making it difficult for small legs to pedal) and the bearings are crushed and flattening making the "clicking" noise as they are being ground up.

Weird noise on my bmx bike

It sounds like you have cracked or broken one or both sealed cartridge bearings if thats what your bike has. If it has ball bearings in races they might be broken. Try loosening your rear wheel enough to take the chain off and then turn your crank. See if theres a funny noise or if it feels a little weird when its turning. If you broke a pedal bearing you should be able to tell just by carefully turning each pedal with your fingers and seeing what it feels like. In any case unless you have the tools to repair it you will have to take it in and get it repaired.

Chain and Wheels

thank you for using Fixya. the issue you are experiencing is pretty much your free wheel. If it is new, it may have been installed the other way around or the clip in the assembly that serves as a spring for the chainwheel to lock out has been worn out.

Best if you will be able to remove the rear wheel and then check the whole rear hub assembly starting with the freewheel and the axle.
