Old VHS tapes may have a copy protection in the video that will cause the video to go dark then to go bright making the copy no good. There are devices available that will remove this copy protection. The copy protection is called macro vision I believe.

SOURCE: HOW DO I RECORD A DVD TO A VHS ON A VHS DVD COMBO BY PHILIPS

By using slysoft software(www.slysoft.com) you can make a copy of the disc on your computer which will remove the encryption code. Then you can take the new disc and copy to vhs.

SOURCE: DVD recorded discs (from VHS) do not play on other dvd players

I called the manufacturer. They admitted to improper instructions. They provided me a fix to their copying protocol and it worked. Also, they game me instructions on how to fix already copied tapes. It works well and I would have to say I was impressed with their customer/technical service.

SOURCE: Can't copy my disney vhs tapes to dvd

I'm assuming your Disney tapes are store-bought, as opposed to recorded off the air. If that's true, the reason you can't record them to your dvd recorder is because of copy-protection. Sorry...can't advise you how to break that.

SOURCE: recording dvd's

As long as the tapes do not have a copy gaurd on them they should record to the dvd. Home moves, tv shows that were recorded or unprotected tapes can also be dubbed.

SOURCE: I'm having trouble recording Disney VHS to DVD. I

I'm not sure if this is the answer, but I have the same unit and in the directions it mentions not being able to record anything from a copyrighted source. I would assume Disney products are copyrighted and might have a feature that prevents these machines from accepting the signal.

I have Magnavox DVD player/vcr DV225MG9, does it record from vhs onto dvds? And if not, what do I need to get so that I can copy all of these old vhs movies to dvds?

it won't record dvd's its only a dvd player. only the vcr records
if the vhs movies your trying to record are movies like star wars and stuff like that it's copy protected and no worth the trouble. if it's home movies or something you recorded from tv they might work. if you get a dvd recorder/vhs player.

Can record on DVD disc will not play on DVD player

Make sure the materials you're trying to record onto the DVD
is not Copyrighted. Try to record a normal TV program onto your
VHS, transfer it to your DVD and then play it. See if that will
work. A VHS movie is usually Copyrighted and Protected by
Macrovision. The picture output can be displayed on a TV set
for viewing but is scrambled black to a DVD Recorder.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO RECORD

Well it depends on what you're recording. If you're trying to record from the T.V. your going to have issues because of the recent switch to digital. If you're recording from homemade VHS to DVD however just put in your VHS, then your blank DVD and hit record. There should be some on screen instructions displayed.
Hope it Helps! -Joe
Also you'll probably also have issues trying to convert your old VHS movie collection to DVD because most of the movies would probably be copyright protected.

I would like to know if it is possible to copy two vhs movies onto one dvd disk.

Yes, this should be possible, as long as the VHS movies are not copyright protected. Just make sure that the recording mode on the dvd is set to allow enough time for both movies. Just remember: the more you record onto a single disc, the quality of the dubbing (recording of VHS to DVD) is decreased.

NOT ABLE TO RECORD

Key thing to remember when recording anything is the following: 1.  Color to color on the back of the machine      Video -yellow      Sound - White and red 2. Make sure your source is output and the recorder is input. 3. Be sure that it is original content that you are trying to record ie make sure you are recording from a VHS that is "Kids do Beauty and the Beast for 5th grade play" and not "Disney Beauty and The Beast"
