Just bought my used Bernina 1010;it was sold to me

Just bought my used Bernina 1010; it was sold to me with a mechanical problem that was not mentioned. The problem is that I cannot wind thread onto bobbin because the hand-wheel release will not disengage the machine so that I can spin thread onto bobbin. It is so tight I would say that the hand-wheel and the release wheel (smaller wheel inside the hand-wheel) are one continuous unit and that they do not move separatley. What do I do?

I trust you are holding the outer ring tightly then twisting the inner ring counterclockwise? Just checking...

In the meantime, you can pick up a stand-alone bobbin winding accessory at the local fabric store. Last time I saw them, they were around $30. Some sewists prefer to use the stand-alone bobbin threader because they can load bobbins without unthreading their sewing machine and it saves wear-n-tear on your machine.

Heat the wheel with a hair dryer to loosen. If this does not help, you will need to visit an authorized Bernina dealer.

Bernina 1010 reverse knob is stuck in the up position. Only sews backwards.

It's an older mechanical, right? Most likely it has seized due to old oil that has dried.

I've used the following method on a seized 930 and it is purring away now.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

I have been away from sewing for a while but have recently begun again. I have a Bernina 1010. The fabric feeder has quit working. Any trouble shooting tips? I no longer have my manual.

Hm, I'm more familiar with the Berninas older than the 1010. The old mechanicals will seize if they haven't been regularly oiled. Could be the feed dogs on your machine have seized for the same reason.

I've resurrected several seized Berninas from a 930 on down to some 530s by opening the top, side, and bottom and applying a couple drops of oil where metal rubs on metal. After the 830 Record, Bernina stopped including any extensive oiling directions in the owner's manual, even though the 930 requires it frequently. (Some say Bernina really wanted the repeat maintenance business, but the 930 also presented some special issues with the basting stitch and the electronic board.) However, I am uncertain how much a user can oil a 1010 without causing damage. Most Bernina manuals provide information for oiling the race but don't go beyond that. Something that may be worth trying is directing hot air from a handheld hairdryer into the area that houses the feed dogs to see if that loosens anything.

Whatever you do, don't use WD-40, 3-in-1, cooking oil, or anything other than fresh good quality sewing machine oil.

You can find a manual for the 1011 here. It may be close enough to your model to be of some use:

How can I get a Free Service Manual for Bernina 180

Chances are you won't be able to find any 180 service manuals anywhere especially a free one. This is a dealer only item and is not allowed to be sold or copied and sold. I did get lucky and I found one on eBay about 14 years ago when I first started servicing and selling used Berninas. The Bernina dealer I deal with will help me when I have a question or show me how to do a repair but he won't allow me to even look at a Bernina repair manual. Bernina is very strict about the use of their repair manuals so if you can find one, consider yourself lucky. And if you find one for free that would be simply amazing!!

The touchscreen on my Benette Deco 340 is locked up. Is there any way to fix that?

The machines 1010-1015 are older versions of the current 1008. There is some variance in stitch types but for the most part technically speaking, these machines are the same. They also share external and internal parts. The mechanical settings and adjustments are also identical. The machines are of the same quality and the sewing function and stitch quality is superb.

If your hand wheel would have a lock cam/washer probably you have fixed it upside down.

How do I Replace light bulb in bernina 1010

Theres a gray flexible cap about 1.5" long and .75" in diameter that comes with the machine. It is used as a tool to screw and unscrew the bulb. Weirdly I have had my machine since I bought it new in about 1987 and have never replaced the bulb. And I do use it, at times heavily.

L want advice on the best bernina to buy, 1008 or 1010. what is the difference between 1008 and 1008S and 1008ES

The machines are the same, the only difference in the 1010 was made from 1989 to 1991, the 1008 in the new version! Both great machines!
