Question about Universal Remote Control MX-850 LCD Remote Control

1 Answer

Same problem I use the RF feature with the AV gear in a remote closet. The IR function works flawlessly (I use it for a couple units in the room), but the RF seems to be getting more and more sporadic. I suspect my problem lies in the RF frequency beginning to migrate a little. I've tried swapping out the receiver, and no change. (I came up with the frequency shift possibility because my CB radio had the same problem, and all it needed was an adjustment) Something I've noticed is that the "working" light on the receiver often stays on when I'm not doing anything with the remote--strengthening my suspicion of frequency shifting.

If the frequency shifted you would have no more remote function, sounds like interference, since the rcvr " working" light stays on, its "picking" something up. try relocating the rcvr. also maybe another remote can confirm your suspicions. good luck Julio milleniumtvsvc@gmail.com

My MX-900 Universal remote does not work when I point it at my TV, it does work when I point it at the AV closet which is in another room. How can I get it to work in the TV room?

You need to program your MX-900 remote for the Sharp TV. Obviously, it is working because it is very good at controlling something else.

My bush Tv remote turns hifi even when it is not pointing at the Hi fi which is at the other end of the room

Most likely the remote control uses an RF control signal rather than an IR signal. IR signals are directional; RF signals are not - they are range-based.

I have a hr21-700 and bought a universal remote (logitech harmony 900) and the unit will not respond to rf commands? I went throught the setup process in the menu option, help

The DVR must be set to use IR instead of RF. The RF Blaster that comes with the remote converts the RF from the Harmony remote to IR commands.

Harmony 890 Pro will not pair with Xbox360

The RF signal is on the XBOX is used for the controllers only.

When using the Harmony 890 with a 360, you will have to use it as an IR (infrared) device. That is the only way to use a remote with the 360. If you have an extra port on your RF extender, you can place the end on the remote senor on the 360 (located under the eject button).

I set these remotes up weekly, it is a product I recommend to people all the time!

But again, the only way to setup a remote with the 360, is to use the IR port as a standard IR remote. Since the controllers run off RF, the learn function will not work, unless you already have 360 remote control to use to do the learn function.

Hope that offers some insight. This information can also be verifies at Microsoft XBOX 360's FAQ page.

How do i get my Bose Lifestyle remote to control

call bose tech support and register your lifestyle system with them, they in turn will start sending you update CD's those CD's may include the new IR databases that would help you find the right code. the other alternative is to call VIaSat and find out what brand's IR codes they are using( and in the IR menu on the bose try that brand's codes) A lot of manufacturers will use the codes from Motorola(worth a shot) the alternative option is to program a universal remote to control your bose, and all your equipment (if your equipment is hidden in a closet, get an RF remote, I program these for my clients all the time (for their bose systems))

Harmony One remote won't input channels very well

Most DirecTV receivers are able to be controlled with IR (infrared) or RF (Radio Frequency) signals. DirecTV receivers are usually set to be controlled by RF.

To control a DirecTV PVR / Satellite, it needs to be set to respond to an IR Remote:
1. On the original DirecTV remote press the Menu button
2. From the Menu press Select on Settings
3. Select Remote from the left menu
4. Press Select on the IR/RF Setup button
5. Use the Up or Down arrows to change from RF to IR
6. Press Select to save

Note: Some models of DirecTV may have different steps to enable IR. You may need to refer to your user manual

Harmony Remotes only control IR signals. so this is not the issue. The Harmony Remote should control the tv. the original remotr needs to be tested for IR or RF.

The device we are working on that is not being controlled by the Harmony Remote could be operating on RF (Radio Frequency) signals. Harmony Remote can only control the devices that operate on IR (Infrared) signals. Most devices that work on RF signals can be changed to operate on IR signals, and this usually could be done by changing the remote control command mode to IR from RF.
Please follow the steps listed below to test to see if the device is being operated on RF or IR signal:
1- We need to use the original remote for that device to complete this task
2- Using your hand or a thick and wide object (wall, pillow, book...), cover the top part of the original remote. In other words block the direct positioning between the original remote and the device.
3- After you cover the top part of the original remote (or used an alternate way to block the direct communication of the original remote and the device), try pressing the buttons on the original remote to see if it can still send commands that can be received by the original remote. You can try powering on/off your device using the original remote when the original remote is being blocked by your hand or another object.
4- If you still can control the device using the original remote without a point of sight, your device is being operated on RF signals. If you cannot control the device without a point of sight, then it is IR operated.
5- If the device is RF operated, please change the command receiving mode to IR rather than RF and test the Harmony Remote.
6- If the device is IR operated, please contact us again by replying to this email and let us know if none of the commands or some certain commands are not working for that device.

You can usually find the information on how to switch the device to be operated on IR signals rather than RF signals, through the user manual for your device, or by contacting technical support of the manufacturer for that device, or even sometimes reaching the information simply by doing a basic research over the internet.

What is a ?????

The RF extender is a add-on device that communicates with the Harmony 1000 remote. You would actually hook up IR eyeballs to your equipment and then plug them into the RF extender. This allows you to have your equipment in a cabinet or closet and have the door shut. The Harmony 1000 sends RF signals to the RF extender and the RF extender sends that signal to the components. This way you don't have to point at the components to control their operation.

Hope this helps, if it did please indicate with vote.

URC-9910 remote: The RF part for this remote stopped working.

I have the same remote as yours and occasionally the RF remote is not working due the interference signal from outside or next door at certain hours.
My suggestions:
(1) To relocate the receiver and reposition the anntena for better reception of the RF signal from the remote unit.
(2) Replaced the battery.

Hope these help!

Panasonic PV-8400 Remote sensor not working?

This is indeed a faulty IR sensor. If it's just the sensor, swap with your good one to check. From memory they are plug in - a little device behing d the smoked translucent facia (display panel). I have come across this several times with Panasonic VCRs. Check whether the remote works at night time with all fluorescent lights in the room switched off. If so, the IR filter circuitry is faulty. Same solution - replace IR sensor on VCR.

IR frequency determination

The remote could be using RF, which is why your Niles equipment cannot handle it. There is no way to duplicate the RF or convert it to an IR signal.

If the remote is using IR, make sure the batteries are full and the light is low when you are learning the codes with tne Niles equpment. There is no way if it's IR that the freq is > 100.
