Digital thermostat. it is winter. Set at 24, auto fan and heatbut inside temperature is 19 degrees. Should i call a repairman.

How do I stop the heating coming on during the night?


Set automatic day and night temperatures. Forget about manual setting. Your furnace will start at night only to maintain the temperature you set. However, there is a minimum threshold where your furnace will start regardless of the temperature you set if there is a sharp drop in temperature.

Cool will not come on when it's set in auto mode


A thermostat is only a switch, nothing more. It's job is to cut on and off the cooling/heating equipment based on a preset temperature setting. It sends 24-28 volts to a contactor or relay which does the actual closing (turn on) or opening (turn off) the power to the compressor or furnace, and that's all it does. There could be a problem with the other parts of the system. When the space temperature exceeds the preset temperature the thermostat should provide 24-28 volts to the compressor contactor, to start the compressor. The "Auto-on" switch on the thermostat controls the fan only. If there isn't 24-28 volts from the thermostat to the coil of the contactor, the compressor will not operate,

I turn my heater on, it is set on auto, but it never turn off, it's a new thermostat.


If the setting was at 80 degrees and it didn't turn off, that's because the room didn't reach 80 degrees yet. Keep track of the room temperature as well as if it turns off when set for a lower temperature.

My robertshaw thermostat works well in summer when using my Air conditioner. I have a heat pump. but in the winter the thermostat frequently displays "ER" during cold winter nights when the unit...


what it sounds like happening is the unit is realizing it is falling behind most thermostat s have a 3 degree deadband if they fall 3 degrees or more at a time after running for so long then it will bring on the emergency heat which is located in your inside unit... when it gets really colds and you see this you need to go outside and look is the outside unit still running and is it freezing up on you...also if running check the larger of two pipes make sure the large pipe is hot to touch...based on the description you have given the thermostat is calling for emergency heat but for some reason is not bringing it on or there is a problem with the emergency heat.... hope this helps out some

Setting a thermostat has nothing to do with outdoor temperature, but more to do with what is a comfortable setting for you and your utility bill.

A common misconception associated with thermostats is that a furnace works harder than normal to warm the space back to a comfortable temperature after the thermostat has been set back, resulting in little or no savings. This misconception has been dispelled by years of research and numerous studies. The fuel required to reheat a building to a comfortable temperature is roughly equal to the fuel saved as the building drops to the lower temperature. You save fuel between the time that the temperature stabilizes at the lower level and the next time heat is needed. So, the longer your house remains at the lower temperature, the more energy you save.

Another misconception is that the higher you raise a thermostat, the more heat the furnace will put out, or that the house will warm up faster if the thermostat is raised higher. Furnaces put out the same amount of heat no matter how high the thermostat is set; the variable is how long it must stay on to reach the set temperature.

In the winter, significant savings can be obtained by manually or automatically reducing your thermostat's temperature setting for as little as four hours per day. These savings can be attributed to a building's heat loss in the winter, which depends greatly on the difference between the inside and outside temperatures. For example, if you set the temperature back on your thermostat for an entire night, your energy savings will be substantial. By turning your thermostat back 10 to 15 degrees for 8 hours, you can save about 5 to 15 percent a year on your heating bill -- a savings of as much as 1 percent for each degree if the setback period is eight hours long.

Coleman Heat Pump Freezes Up


This sounds like an airflow problem. You said you change the filters every 3 weeks or so. Check the filters and the indoor coil to make sure they are clean. Also look at the indoor fan and make sure it is running and running at speed. A fan that isn't running at the rated speed will cause the coil to freeze. A weak capacitor can make the fan run slow. Also make sure the fan blade/wheel is clean. A low refrigerant charge will also cause the unit to freeze. It doesn't matter what you have the thermostat set on because the temperature of the refrigerant is determined by the pressure of the refrigerant and the airflow across the coils. If it freezes up again you can put it in heat mode to melt the ice.

The oven temperature isn't correct. Ovenw Won't heat up.


has the oven got a fan on it. if so then maybe fan is faulty.
if convection oven then maybe one of elements is faulty
or the thermostat is a problem

Intake brings the air outside into your room, exhaust pushes the air inside your room out.

What setting you use depends on your personal taste of temperatures and the temperature inside vs outside. If you set the thermostat to 72 degrees and it is more than that outside then I would use the exhaust setting. If you set it to 72 degrees, and it is 68 outside but 84 inside then I would set it onto intake to cool the inside air.

Robertshaw 9600: Temperature rises too high, fan doesn't stop.


It sounds like the thermostat is wired improperly. One quick was to check is by finding breaker to unit and shutting off power. Go to thermostat and remove from wall take all wires off thermostat besides wire going to R(might be RcandRh) and C(which is common) Tape all bare wires removed with electrical tape. Now go back to the breaker and turn power back on. Nothing should be running at all. Take a voltage meter and measure the voltage from R to W(which is heating). If you read 24V then the thermostat is open and not calling for heat. Now turn the thermostat up so it is calling for heat. You should read 0V from R to W. If this checks out your thermostat is probally fine. You can check the fan the same way by going from R to G. In auto you shoul read 24V from R to G and in th on postion you will read 0V from R to G. If the thermostat checks out then the problem is probably at the furnace or rooftop. Either with the thermostat wiring or the main board acting up
