It's usually a bad door switch or a broken door switch mount. Once in a while it's due to a board problem. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

SOURCE: Display panel (right side) on

The first thing I would do is a hard reset (simply unplugging it for a couple of minutes) if that has not been done already.

Then one would need to retrieve the technical sheet (mini-manual) found behind the control panel assembly.

If you don't find your mini-manual, or if you want to look at it before removing the controller, you can download it here. Just enter your model number from the tag on your unit.

If a reset won't fix it, I would bet there is a loose connection where one of the boards connects to another, or some contamination from grease or steam, etc., at one of those connectors.

A lot of time one can unplug then reconnect the connector, and that will clean it. Or one can unplug the connector and clean the contacts with a soft pencil eraser.

Error Code "d" - Microwave does not heat

The microwave could be in "Demo Mode" - Check your owners manual.

In Whirlpool/Kenmore models this is indicated by a lower case "d" on the right side of the display panel.

Most/All function except the magnatron (heat) work in demo mode so you can can learn to use the oven without actually cooking food

To clear "demo mode" press the "kitchen timer" pad and hold for 5 seconds until the "d" clears from the display... you may hear 2 beeps.

I have a Appollo AAC24-BIB halftime oven. one of the 2 wires coming from the t stat arced and burnt off and burnt the connection off. Customer service sent me a new t stat and I put it together and ran it...

The cover may be contacting the wires - this will complete the circuit and cause a short. You may need a new part - this time install and ensure that no bare wires are making contact with the cover.

My kitchenaid microwave will not heat in microwave mode. In fact the turntable starts and stops and the display blinks intermittenly. In convection oven mode everything works fine - It heats, turntabl

The magnetron is the main part that gives out microwaves to heat the food. As the convection bit is working this points towards the microwave bits.
The magnetron has a main diode, fuse and transformer to run the microwave bit, any of these could be faulty. A word of warning though, there are extremely high voltages inside microwaves, even when unplugged in the main capacitor. Also to repair this section you will need to be a fully qualified engineer to even order parts for this.

Sharp 1870 just quit cooking and no turntable

The fact that the microwave and convection both do not heat indicated that the oven is in demo mode, check the user manual, otherwise it will possibly be a relay not triggering, may need a pcb replacement, check Demo mode 1st....Phil

Sharp microwave quit working

Obviously there was a serious short circuit in this unit which is not normally serviceable by anyone but a factory technician. Since this would not be cost effective, I suggest you replace the oven. New ovens are quite reasonable and have many great features.

Display went out then oven quit

The main controler board has failed, or there is a fault and the system is in protect mode.

This would have to be properly diagnosed by a tech who is familiar with your microwave oven, and has spare parts and the test gear to evaluate.

Get in touch with the manufacture, or consult the user instructioins to find out where to send the oven for service.
