if it is recommended that you cook for 7 hours on medium I would think the you would cook it on high for 3-1/2 hours, and or low for 14 hours but check it with a meat thermometer every hour

I am cooking a roast beef dinner for Christmas I bought a 13lb chuck boneless and I need to know how long to cook in in a traditional oven.


5 After browning the roast at a 500°F temperature in the oven for 15 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to 325°F. To figure out the total cooking time, allow about 11-12 minutes per pound for rare and 13-15 minutes per pound for medium rare.

Really, you need a probe thermometer. Leave it to rest for 15 minutes after you take it out of the oven, loosely tented with foil. I am a chef!

well without knowing what device your cooking with its hard to say , but in general its 20 min per pound or until an internal temp of 165 is reached (temp is the best way to go )

Rare:

• 120-130 °F (50-55 °C) Internal appearance very red; very moist with warm juices. Approximate cooking and resting time: 20-25 min./lb. plus 8-10 min. resting

Medium-rare:

• 130-140 °F (55-60 °C) Internal appearance lighter red; very moist with warm juices. Approximate cooking and resting time: 25-30 min./lb.. plus 8-10 min. resting

Medium (with a touch of pink):

• 140-150 °F (60-65 °C) Internal appearance pink red color; moist with clear pink juice. Approximate cooking and resting time: 30-35 min./lb. plus 8-10 min. resting

Well-done:

• 150-165 °F (65-75 °C) Internal appearance no pink or red, slightly moist with clear juices

These burgers are broiled, or use your grill and serve on toasted hamburger buns.Ingredients:
  • 2 pounds ground beef, lean
  • 1 tablespoon steak sauce, your favorite
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded American or mild Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
Preparation:Combine ground beef, steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, salt, and pepper. Shape mixture into 8 hamburger patties. Broil patties 4 inches from heat for 6 minutes. Turn and broil for 4 to 6 minutes longer, to desired doneness. Combine cheese and onion; place on patties then broil until cheese is melted. Serve on toasted hamburger buns.

Tangy Corned Beef and Cabbage Stew
You don't have to be Irish to enjoy this lovely dinner.
  • 3 pounds corned beef, rinsed and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 3 tablespoon quick cooking tapioca
  • 3 medium carrots, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 medium onions, quartered
  • 1 small head cabbage, cut into 8 wedges (do not remove the heart)
  • 1- 10 1/2 ounce can beef broth
  • 1 soup can water
  • 2 tablespoons wine vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon horseradish (optional)
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  1. Place corned beef in pot. Sprinkle tapioca evenly over meat.
  2. Spread carrots, onions, and cabbage evenly around and over meat. In a mixing bowl, combine beef broth, water vinegar, dry mustard, horseradish, molasses, cloves and bay leaf. Add to pot.
  3. Cover and simmer at Setting #4 for 6 to 8 hours or until vegetables are fork tender. Remove cloves and bay leaf. Keep warm for serving at Setting #2.
    Makes 6 to 8 servings.

How many pounds of sloppy joes can I fit in my five quart crock pot?


Well, that all depends on how dense a sloppy joe mixture you make. If you add pounds and pounds of ground beef to the mix and just the sloppy joe sauce, then it would be many pounds.

But as for a good rule of thumb, "A pints a pound the world around" In other words, if you're making sloppy joes from the pre-mixed cans, just weigh one 16 oz (1 pint) can and that's 1/2 quart.

If you're making it yourself, we're back to the whole density of your chosen ingredents.

However, I've done a little research for you and based on the density of cooked beef and converting the weight of that cooked beef into the 5 quart volume of your crockpot, I've come up with the following info for you.

Cooked Beef has a density 129.52 Ounces per Gallon (a technical measurement)

So based on that data (not including your sloppy joe seasoning/sauce and other add-ins), you should get approximately 10.12 Pounds of Sloppy Joe Mixture to fit into your 5 Quart Crockpot.

I would guess that the amount would be just slightly less, since you might want a little room for putting on the lid, etc., but you should get around 10 Pounds to fit easily in your 5 quart crockpot.
