Comp will not boot after installing a SATA DVD-RW

Perhaps your bios is set to boot from the 1st device it 'sees'.
When you add the dvd drive, maybe the device order gets shuffled up, making the dvd drive 1st. So, you need to check this by looking at the boot settings on the bios screen and change the boot order if necessary.

Can't find updated ACPI Bios for toshiba satellite m45 s331I am Getting blue screen Bios in this system not fully ACPI compliant.

Upgrading the bios it will not fix the issue ..cause the blue-screen is either a unsupported setting is a operation system issue ..So ..if you get the blue-screen when you boot up ..and does not let you to get into bios..It may be the ACHI (not acpi ..cause the acpi is the power management ) being enabled and not having the driver installed..and in this mode will not be able to boot and will give you that blue screen ..
To fox it ..just go to bios ..and look for the hard disk ..and in teh same category you will see the achi function ..and just disable the mode..and let it run as IDE..This way it will boot fine ..
Indeed the achi mode for a hard disk faster and if you do want to use it ..try to boot without the achi enabled..and install the achi driver in the system ..and after that enable it again and see if it works..
If it still does monkey business than it will have to be reinstalled ..and if you still want achi for hdd have to install the driver during the installation a 3rd party driver ..
In short ..try to make it run ..and do not mess with the BIOS ..cause you may end up with a broken laptop ..

Can't install xp in compaq laptop

you mean you need to downgrade your computer from Windows Vista to XP?
if so is the case, you need to go to the BIOS in the Boot menu, select IDE from ACPI.
put the boot option to boot from CD first or disable Boot from hard disk.
then you will be able to downgrade your computer from Vista to XP.

Problem on o/s installation

Look in your bios & see if you can disable the ACPI, (which you should be able too do. Finish installing your OS. Than update the OS. After completing all updates re-enter your bios & enable the ACPI. You should not get that error message after re-start.
