Question about Dishwashers

Open Question

I bought an RO faucet with air gap outlets to replace a standard faucet. I installed it without the connections to the air gap nozzles - but it leaks. Please advise if I can use this?

Small drops from one of the air gap nozzles - anytime you switch on the faucet for water

Hello,
The airgap prevents the water from the sink backflowing into the dishwasher. You could espically if your dishwasher hasa corragated plastic drain hose attach it under the sink so at one point the hose is higher that the nozzle of the disposer it connects to so the hose is still higher that the level of the nozzle and water wont backfill into the dishwasher.

I have an AC 30 and it does not appear that the local culligan dealer installed the flush line correctly as per the diagram in the owners manual. It shows the flush line coming off of the faucet assembly...

The flush rate is dependent on the Membrane used (IE: 16gpd, 35gpd, 50gallons per day), the TDS of the water, the amount of water used daily from the RO and the size of the storage tank. When the RO is creating water (depending on TDS) you will waste about 3 gallons for every gallon of product water. If the system is under the sink and drains directly to the DWV line then yes the drain should be run through the AIR GAP faucet to prevent cross contamination of the RO system.

When dishwasher is running, water leaks under base of our American Standard Colony model soft two-handle kitchen faucet into cabinet beneath sink

Is there an air gap next to the faucet that is leaking. If so, it is probably clogged. Pull the cap off of it and clean it out. This is what it may look like before you take the cap off.

I want to unhook my reverse osmosis how do u do that and what are the steps

Here are the steps to remove your RO system. Put a pan and a couple rags under sink to catch any water that might spill.
1. Label all the lines from RO (with masking tape) to remember where they go.
2. Turn the water off to RO system
3. Run all the water from the RO tank
4. Turn the valve off on RO tank.
5. Remove the line to the RO tank and pull tank out.
6. Remove the line to the RO drain.
a. If there is an AIR GAP faucet this line may go there first
b. plug the whole for RO drain or replace the standpipe
7. Remove the product line from RO faucet
8. Remove the water line feeding the RO system.
9. Make sure the valve feeding RO is shut off completely
a. If this valve is a piercing valve you may want to consider replacing the section of copper
plumbing because it will eventually leak if left unused.
10. When re-installing the RO remove old filters, sanitize system and replace with new filters.

Leak at one of the fittings on my Culligan RO system

Too much pressure in holding tank will not cause leaks in the RO unit. All too much pressure in tank will do is cause low or no product water in RO tank. Older Culligan RO systems (H8, H83, H5) had fittings that used metal locking washers and these can cut the RO line after the RO has been moved around while changing filters. Newer styles (AC30, Water Tower) use quick connect fittings and the RO line may work loose after filter changes and system being moved around under sink.
Turn the incoming water off to RO, turn the water off on RO tank, open the RO faucet to relieve pressure and pull the line off feeding the RO tank, inspect (you may want to cut off a small portion of the line at the filter) check the o-ring and re-install.

I have a GE PROFILE R/O System with a chrome dispenser; I need a brushed nickel dispense; where can I get one???

An RO drinking water air gap faucet would be the ideal faucet to purchase for your RO system. Here are a few options you can choose from that may come in brushed nickel: http://www.freshwatersystems.com/c-821-ro-drinking-water-air-gap-faucets.aspx

My culligan water filter makes a gurgle sound

The reverse osmosis faucet you have incorporates an AIR GAP to prevent cross contamination to the RO system. The waste water first goes up the to RO faucet AIR GAP and then goes to drain. The "gurgling noise" is the waste water going to drain. Some of these are much noisier than others.

Is it possible to contaminate the membrane and filters by placing drain under pressure in order to clear and forcing water out the overflow on the side of the faucet of the whre 25 Reverse osmosis system

OK, now I understand. First, on the Reverse Osmosis Membrane Housing Outlet Ports there is only a Check Valve attached to the Permeate (Pure Water) Port, not the Concentrate Port (Drain Water). The Permeate line is what fills the storage tank, so you don't want back pressure from the tank reversing into the membrane filter which could severely damage it. So, there is a high Risk for Sewer Water to Back-flow into the Membrane Filter and Contaminate it as it is discharging water to the sewer drain if there is any noticeable pressure restriction in the drain distribution manifold. Second, this is why "Air-Gap" Faucets are supposed to be used when installing Reverse Osmosis Systems. With an Air-Gap Faucet, there are three (3) attachments for tubing at the base of the faucet, and a small hole drilled out underneath the lever or handle of the faucet. The 1/4" pressurized drain line tube from the RO System attaches to the 1/4" barbed fitting under the faucet base, then a 3/8" drain line tube attaches to the 3/8" barbed fitting. So when the drain water is pumped up to the faucet under pressure, it returns to the sewer line under Gravity, or No Back Pressure. Then, if the plumbing becomes restricted in any way that the RO Unit can't drain into the sewer under gravity feed, the hole drilled in the base of the faucet allows the back pressure to be escaped to the atmosphere, and if necessary drain water out of the hole until the plumbing pressure restriction can be resolved. This eliminates the possibility of a reverse flow pressure situation from occurring. Hope this helps, and you can always visit us online at www.puresafe.com We have filter cartridges for all makes and models of RO Systems, and 1/2 micron filters that no one else in the trade is using at this time. My Culligan RO faucet has an ''air gap'' leak. How do I clear the clogged debris causing the water to constantly run? Culligan told me that the Faucet/Air gap is clogged. Need to dislodge the debris.

Normally when it leaks out the weep hole the drain line is plugged under the sink....turn off the ro to where it's not making water, disconnect the drain hose and flush it out....make sure the adapter that's connected to the drain pipe is still lined up with the hole if it was moved the water can't get to the drain.

Changed filters on Whirlpool Reverse Osmosis and now water leaks.

the tube going from the ro cartridge is clogged or the drain tube going from the faucet to the drain p trap is clogged

I have installed many ro systems a=nd have had that problem Not only do youhave to replace the filters but make sure the drain hoses are clear

use a pipe cleaner or a a stiff wire
I also remove the connection going into the ptrap and clean back to faucet...it is usually real nasty
