You will probably need to send it off to a repair facility to get it fixed. One of the lights may be out, if you cracked it it will have to be replaced.
It sounds like you have bad batteries. I have had rechargeables that have suddenly done the same thing. I have learned that buying really cheap ones doesn't work out. If you buy a good branded set, I think you will find that they are much better. :)
Normally when the flash stops working it is because the capacitor the camera uses to store the flash power ( that is what charges..not the bulb) burns out. This is a very difficult repair and should only be completed by a camera technician.
If the repair is over 10 dollars I would suggest a new camera.
