Question about LG Televison & Video

1 Answer

LG 47LH30 TV will not turn on. Only indication of life is steady RED LED. Could this be a faulty logic board?

When problem first appeared I could get TV to operate normally after complete power down (AC removed). This worked a couple of times but now I get only steady red LED. Screen is dark. Blue LED does not come on when pressing on/off button on button panel or using remote. Do not hear any relay clicks. Removed cover and examined the power supply board. No apparent capacitor failures. Both fuses good. Power supply is outputting 5V only. Do not see 12V or 20V. Checking at the P201 connector. I do see 4.21V on the ERROR pin (pin 22? it's between P-Dim and Inv on/off). Before I start replacing boards I wonder if there are other troubleshooting paths. Thanks for your advice.

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electro-medical.blogspot.com/ In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
Before going further; try a hard reset first. If it does not help you, replace the main digital board. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your reply. I've attempted the hard reset several times without success. I'm not sure that the factory reset is an option since it does not appear that the tv ever gets beyond standby mode. The are 2 ports on the back panel - USB IN (service only) and RS-232. Would either of these be helpful in this situation? Again, thanks for your help. I'm just trying to determine if it's worth getting a replacement main pc board."

The menu keeps flashing on and off. I have turn the tv off 4 or 5 times but it still keeps flashing the light on the bottom of tv goes blue then red really fast

How old is your TV? This normally indicates a power problem. It could be any of the following: power supply on the TV, faulty power strip, faulty wall outlet, faulty circuit board inside the TV, faulty power cord/plug, bad airflow/clogged vents restricting air movement into the TV (can cause intermittent power faults),bad sensor inside TV. This is not completely inclusive by any means. It does mean that you should have it looked at. Someone knowledgeable/skilled should be able to determine the cause fairly quickly using a multimeter.

My lg 52ld 550ub, has a problem . No picture, on lg logo comes on and red blinking light

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.

Sumsung hps5053 would not turn on

I fixed this model of TV. Symptom was NO POWER. Totally dead. Not even a blue LED up front. Here's what I had to do...
I found a blown thermistor on the power supply board. It's green and located near the 120vac mains input to the board. There is a component number written on the board near it (as with all components) and it begins with "TH" i believe. So it will be something like "TH101". It was very easy to identify that this part had gone bad on my power supply, as i was literally blown apart and debris had been scattered all about the area.
Before finding this faulty component, I had done some preliminary voltage testing from the power supply's outputs. I started with the 5 volt stand by signal feeding into the logic controller board. It was bouncing around from 1v-3v.
After replacing the faulty thermistor, there was a steady 5v signal on the standby circuit. However, the blue power button was still not illuminating. And there was absolutely no voltage going into the power button board (which is fed from the logic controller). So after attempting to replace a few dozen suspect high ESR SMD caps on the logic board (to no avail), I ordered a new one.
And then the TV came to life.
Works great now!
Feel free to ask for advice.
