Question about Lite On LVC-9016G DVD Recorder/VCR

LiteOn LVC - 9016G dvd recorder Problem.

Just as several other owners have stated, the unit is reading any New disc I
try to prepare for recording, INVALID. I have loaded the firmware from the O
LiteOn site, but did not solve the problem. I can add to a disc that I had previously completed some recording on. It's only trying to prepare New discs that I now get the INVALID DISC. Is there anything else that I can try to fix the problem?

I have the same problem. When preparing a DVD+R the "Invalid Disk" error shows up. I am using the same type of disk that I have been using for a long time.

I've tried several different blank disks, won't recognize any of them.

    piece of shit

I have tried many different brands of media to no avail. LiteOn tech support sent me a list of "supported" brands. I bought a pack of one of them - Ritek 4x DVD+RW. Didn't work! The only blank disk I've had any luck with is an old Sony 4x DVD+RW disk. What a disappointment this unit is.

I have owned this unit for almost 2 years and have recorded at least 300 discs and just in the last week I have had the same INVALID DISC message. I thought it might be the discs but they are the same brand I have always used, TDK. At first, it would work some of the time, but now all I get is INVALID DISC. I also have a squeeky disc tray that has trouble closing on occasion.

I am having the same invalid disc problem but I am also having an issue with the tray not ejecting as well. It takes several tries to get the tray to eject. I hear the mechanism operating but the tray does not open. I am looking for a repair center in Toronto as I have several discs that I have not finalized and want it repaired. I am able to finalize discs I have already recorded.

The unit I bought was a refurbish and I have had it about a year. My unit is just a DVD recorder and not the VCR combo unit.

Throw it in the trash- I got 1 from costco, liked it so much, bought another a week later. First one started giving me the "invalid" msg, 2nd one did the same 1 wk later, so I guess they're programmed to do so after so many hours after being plugged in. Too bad, cuz it was the easiest to use of 5 previous models I tried. Their easyguide onscreen menu was the greatest, plus the status of time, pause & recording indicator, which you could turn on or off as needed, were very useful.
A real shame to have to throw in the trash. Won't ever buy another thing from them.

Keep getting "Fail" on blank discs

The LVW-5005 DVD Recorder came with a list of recommended brands for each type of disc, and they are all different in all categories. Some brands are recommended for CDs, some for DVDs, etc. They are not the same in any catagory. Most of the ones I bought were not on the list, because I couldn't find those listed anywhere in my neighborhood here in California. Some worked before, but are not working well now. Some have never worked, and some are failing intermittently.

The INVALID DISC message comes up on both units often, but when it comes up on the LVW-5005 unit the DISC eject feature will not eject. The open close door stays shut and says it is open, but sticks and keeps trying to reread the disc. You actually have to tip the machine down to let gravity help, and then turn it on and off and on and off and it finally opens and drops out the invalid disc.

The LVC-9016G unit says "change disc", or gets stuck on "Preparing". Sometimes it prepares, and then I can actually record, but when I try to load it later..... FAIL! This too is INTERMITTENT. GOD I HATE THAT WORD!!!!

I am not good a taking machines apart, and I have a MAC system 10.5 computer, and the firmware update seems to be geared to the WINDOWS PC. HELP?? Is there anything I can do.

Also IS THERE A LIST OF PREFERRED BRANDS of the media for the LVC-9016G model. It may be the same as the list for the LVW-5005 unit, except the that unit is supposed to record on CDs as well. NOT SURE> None are working consistantly.

The other idea that I had is that the newer DVD-R and DVD-RW or the DVD+R and DVD+RW discs have a heavier technology and these older burners (2 years makes it older, I guess....) and seem to no longer like them.

The 6 hour SLP I always set them to record on in the past, may no longer be valid. The 4x, 8X 16X etc. may not work either. Since I don't understand what that means, and we only have access to what is available to buy, I am at a loss there too. I am logical, but not technically educated in this technology. I come at this with psychology, not technology... :-)

I have the LVC-9016G for 2 years, and the other bought at COSTCO only a year ago. Is $300 worth of equipment already obsolete?

I have not hacked or touched anything. I may need to buy another lense cleaning disc. I have a memorex one, but when I put that in it said INVALID DISC, and will not work either. Won't read or spin.

I am frustrated...http://club.cdfreaks.com/images/smilies/6/eek.gif.

Candy user_offline.gif this can be due to invalid media........all types will not burn in this unit........good success....meder's tv service

My liteon vcr/dvd recorder lvc-9016G: The DVD keeps showing "invalid disc" when I know they are not. I bought it in Sept.07 and it was OK till now. The VCR is working and recording. Is the...

You have 2 choices here, you can either submit the unit to an authorised service centre (or similar), obtain a quote on the likely cause(s) of the problem (which to me sounds like the digital control circuit has failed partially to the DVD deck and/or corrupt firmware which is not possible to upgrade), the potential costs involved, and so on, you can then make a decision based on the unit's age and overall condition as to whether it's economical to repair or not. The point is, the unit is repairable, but it could prove expensive.

The other option you have, is to keep the unit as a VCR (which is cheaper than repair to the DVD), and later on, buy a new DVD player/recorder (as required). The cost of the repairs to your existing unit vs. buying a new one could be significant. Up to you.

Personally, does the DVD deck play any shop-bought movies? If not, don't bother getting it repaired. Buy a new unit (but keep your existing unit as a VCR while it works).

Lvc9016g

I have successfully made hundreds of play-able DVDs from my home video using this Liteon LVC9016G. Overall I like this machine although it is very quirky.

First, I can tell you the only DVD that can work is SONY DVD+R 120min / 4.7GB. NOTHING ELSE WILL WORK RIGHT. I have used some DVD-R: You can record on it since everything appears to work. The got-ya is you cannot play it at all. I am sick of this because I have re-used some tape but ended up with useless DVDs! Take my word for it, I have tried many media like Maxwell or Verbatin. These "other brands" are fine on the computer but not on this machine. I don't know what this machine can detect and see the differences in the media.

The good thing is that I was able to connect the DV port from my camcorder (Sony mini DV) to the dv port on this unit. Cable was not included so I bought one very cheap from eBay. This connection gives the best control as the LiteOn remote control can control the recording from camcorder to the DVD recorder and even make different menu items. This is not a published feature but I figured out. As I said I have made hundreds of home video on this unit and it is very nice (when it works.)

the rather in-elegant solution I use is to lift the unit half inch or so, and drop it. the door then opens and you can insert the disc. if a disc is in the unit, it opens just fine.
