Hm, wondering if the stitch selector for the decorative stitches is out of place. Usually, the stitch selector mechanism operates with a spring which may not be working quite right. Could also be that the metal parts that activate the decorative stitches are locked with gunked oil. Move those parts and watch where metal rubs against metal and apply a couple drops of liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube. (Do NOT oil belts or plastic gears!) Can follow up with hot air from a handheld hairdryer. See if that loosens things.

Its working maybe not timed anymore sometimes its the same way like a mode-select switch on the timed intake of a function on a videorecorder when its getting dirthy contacts it will function so that it worked in the wrong way outside the borders of the end of the circuit and can caused several damage or have only a missing link. but beware to take the problem that caused the problem out on this otherwise it is only for a short while suc6

I cant get my stitch Width Zig zag knob to turn om my bernina record 930. Any one have this problem?

Most likely because your machine has not been serviced (oiled & cleaned) in a long time and the old oil has turned to glue and seized. This is probably the most common problem with mechanical sewing machines. A mechanical sewing machine should be regularly maintained..ie every 40 hours of sewing use or at least every six months when not in use. You may want to take it to a Bernina service technician. Ask for a bottle of Bernina oil for CB hook machines and ask if they will show you how to oil it.

Model 930.Why is presser foot not lined up correctly?

Is your needle position centered? The round dial on the top right is a combination zig-zag stitch width selector and the center silver dial selects the needle position. If it is pointed at the #2, then the needle should be centered and something (probably the needle bar) has been knocked out of alignment on your machine (which would probably mean repair service).

Also, if the needle is hitting the presser foot, you probably have a straight stitch foot on your machine which requires the needle be centered. To do any decorative or zig-zag stitching, the presser foot needs to have a wide space for the needle to swing back and forth. The zig-zag foot is marked with a zero.

Decvorative stitches do not work Zig zag

the machine needs to be checked to see if the gear or cam for the decorative stiches is damaged or broken

Have a Bernnina record 530. The zigzag will not work, just straight stitch on any width setting. all the other fancy stitches(1-12) work fine.

the cam or gear of the zig zag could be worn or damaged,, having the machine checked,, would tell you for sure what wrong with the zig zag..

My Bernina 1130 has zig zag problems. I have to turn my machine on for 10 minutes before it will even sew. When I sew straight it will skip a few stitches every inch or so. Now it will not zig zag mo

here are some suggestions
Skipped stitches
1. The needle is not inserted correctly
Remove needle & reinsert needle( flat side towards the back of machine)
2. The needle is damaged
replace with new needle
3. The wrong size needle is being used
Choose a needle to suit the thread & fabric
4. The foot not attached correctly
Check & attach correctly

I really recommend having the sewing machine checked to
see if there is a internal problem, since you have to wait 10 minutes
before sewing & the problem with the zig zag & looping.

Bernina activa 210 won't zigzag and has bobbin issues on straight stitch

it's very possible that the machine is slightly out of time & needs to be service at a sewing machine shop
is the fabric & thread & needle compatable with each other?
did you use every thread guide when threading the machine?
is the bobbin in correctly?
is the bobbin warped?

I can't get the decorative stitching to work on my Bernina 830. The machine is probably 40 years old and works like a charm. Except that the decorative stitches don't work. I searched the...

Will it stitch any of the swing needle stitches like a regular zig zag too? Try the zig zag and blind hem zig zag and see if it is stitching them out okay.

If not, sometimes the needle swing mechanisim gets gummed up from lack of use/dirt/lint/grotty oil and may just need a good clean inside.

Other possibility is the spring on the needle bar has broken. To test this, set machine stitch width to zero, and with your hand move the needle bar as far right as you can, then release it. It should move back to central position itself if the spring is okay. If not, good chance that's the problem.

If you feel mechanically inclined you could try to take off the cover to your machine and see what the gears around the needle bar look like and try cleaning/lubing them. You could try cleaning up anything that looks really gunky with q-tips and denatured alcohol and see if you can free up the movement of the gears inside. Triflow is a great lubricant to use along with a bit of warmth from a hair driver may also help to shift the gunk (keep off plastic though).

Other option is to take your lovely Bernina for a service; they are great machines so well worth it. All machines benefit from a professional clean/lube/adjustment at least every two years and your 830 may be just a simple fix.

Zig Zag Stitch not working

THis problem occurred as I was sewing on Neoprene. I was using Gutterman all-purpose thread and a size 80 needle. Tried switching to a size 70, then to size 90. Still unable to zig zag. After inserting a test sample of cotton, the zig zag worked perfectly, so I knew it was not a mecahnical problem. I switched needles again. This time to size 90 for stretch fabric. Voila! Problem solved.

Sewing Machine Problem

Check to see if the cam stack gear does not have a crack in it. The other problem is the cam engager lever is does not engage the cam stitches because it is gummy. To solve this, lift the lid and follow the lever to where it make contact, add a penetrant oil. More the lever back and forth as fast as you can and work the penetrating oil into the area. It should click back and forth and snap between the back and front V's. One is for the zig zag and straight stitches and the other is for all cam patterns. Once it is clicking and snapping back add regular oil. Thensew out your pattern stitches. If the machine binds then you could have a cracked cam stack gear and has to be change by a Bernina service center.
