Some ideas here regarding computer drives

This is a pop up lid though, so it sounds like the catch is broken? Your instruction manual is in the link.

Had to open radio to clean it because of static. Where does piece of cardboard go?

It is not a good idea to "open" electronic devices when you are not familiar with them. Next time take a photo of each step so you can recreate your "dismounting procedure.
Actually, it's the firt time I read that the Emerson CKS3029 Clock Radio has a piece of cardboard inside.

It happened twice to me as well, i turned it off and on twice. disconnected every thing once. nothing helped. u just have to keep opening and closing until it works

Your lens on the dvd drive is dirty.

Clean it using a cd cleaner (cd with brushes on it) or a can of compress air to blow the dust off.

If you do not clean it, eventually you will not be able to read any games no matter how many times you open and close it.

Radio and clock works, but the CD doesn't work

You can try using a head cleaning cd to clean the head. You can buy these cleaning cds in most places where they sell cds. If this doe not fix you problem, you will need to call Emerson customer support at this telephone number. 1-800-909-1240. Give them the make and model number of you CD/Clock/Radio and ask them for assistance with the problem. I hope this information helps you with your problem. Thank you for using FixYa and have a nice day.

I hope this will help you, I just found the Users Manual to this Model online myself, as I needed info on setting the Alarm.

I am also going to upload the full Manual, just incase anyone else needs it.

Cheers!

Setting The Time Of Day

• Connect the power cord to your AC outlet. Make sure to use an outlet that is
always ‘live’. Do not use an outlet that is controlled by a wall switch.

• When the unit is plugged in for the first time the
display will show flashing “12:00” (AM).

1.) While the display is flashing, press the HR. button to set the hour. Be sure
to observe the PM indicator to set the hour correctly. If the PM indicator is ‘On’
the hour displayed is PM.

2.) Press MIN. button to set the minute correctly.

3.) Press the TIME button once. The time is set.
The display remains ‘On’.

Note: You may proceed to re-set the time again by pressing the TIME button
once during Power-off or CD, FM, AM, Buzzer modes.

Important Notes !!
If you press and hold the TIME button any time, the clock will change to
European 24-Hour format, and 12-Hour USA format.

One of your door interlock switches is defective . I would suggest having it repaired by a qualified repair tech in your area.

The door switch contacts located under gear on side of unit needs adjusting or cleaned. these contacts turn on cd motors. cd will not work until contacts are working proper.
