Re: no power

Hi all - so funny because I just had the same "no power" issue with my Compaq Presario V2000 last week (11/2007). My issue turned out to be the part of the adaptor that actually plugs into the back of the computer (from the wall to the main adaptor box, was fine though). I ended up buying a whole new charger at Best Buy for almost $100.

For Laidup - does this help you out?

Re: no power

Do you know if the other battery you tried had any charge in it?
If the battery was charged then it will not be a power jack or adaptor problem. As far as changing power jacks it is not for the faint of heart. I have done several with success on them all but it is not easy. If you are comfortable with opening the laptop go ahead and check all the connections on the inside. Sounds like a motherboard problem

Acer aspire D257 won't turn on

Remove all the cables, then take the battery out. Press down the power button for 10s. But the battery back in, connect the AC adapter and try to start.

If nothing happens, most likely HW issue.

Non responsive nothing loads

Nothing loads.
Any lights, noises, screen activity?
Have you rebooted, tapping the F8 every two seconds as it powers up?
Try this quickie: Power off, remove power cord, remove battery, hold down power on button for 30 seconds, replace power cord (not battery), power on. Any effect?

I tried to power on my computer and there was nothing. It was plugged in and the battery light was blinking amber when I tried to press the power button. The light on the power cord is green but there is...

It sounds like the Power adapter is:

1. Not plugged into the computer
2. Not functioning
3. Has a broken connector (or the laptop has a broken power connector)

Unplug the adapter, remove the battery, hold the power button on the laptop for 30 seconds. Plug in the power adapter connector to the laptop - if the power indicator illuminates, remove the power cord, insert the battery ant then plug in the power cord. Press the power button (hopefully you're back in business).

If that does not help, p borrow an adapter from a friend and try it with your laptop, if it works, then go buy a new adapter!

When pressing the power button, three lights flash on the computer but nothing appears on the monitor and the computer doesn't power up. I unplugged the power cord and replugged it in and still it flashed...

The Notebook may just have it's knickers in a twist - try removing the power cord and then remove the battery - leave it for a coouple of minutes then replace the battery and try again. The worse case scenario I am afraid is that your hard drive is toast so you may have to replace it.

My notebook refuses to turn on, i've switch outlets, double check that all connections are curretly connected, I've taken the battery off waited a few then put it back on - but still nothing, it just wont...

There are a few possible causes.
  • Your computer is coming on, but your screen is out and you just cant tell. You should see light come on and hear a few noises from the cd drive and hard drive.
  • Your power supply is bad (the corded thinggy)
  • Your battery is bad and has damaged the cord too.
  • The plug in the back of the computer is damaged (Possibly from a bad battery melting the connector)
  • You computer has lightning/surge damage and is just broken
  • The motherboard has failed completely
First, test the simple things.
  1. Remove your battery and try to start with only the cord.
  2. Check the plug that the power supply plugs into. Is it loose does it wiggle? It may need replaced/repaired
  3. Plug the power cord back in and wiggle do any of the light flicker? This may confirm step 2.
  4. Take your computer to a simple repair shop and see if they have a power supply you can try. REMOVE your battery first. If it works, great! Get the power supply.
  5. If none of these are the problem, leave the computer at the repair place for them to look at. There are a few other problems, but you probably cant check those yourself.

Toshiba satellite laptop will not power on if you plug in the power cord.even you take off the battery. but it will turn on if on battery power. if its runnung already it freezes if you plug in the power...

I would suspect that either your power cord or power adapter is defective.
Try testing using a new power cord/adapter & see if this fixes the problem.

Another possibility might be a loose or defective power connector in the laptop. Check the connector where you plug the power cord. It might need to be re-soldered or replaced.

Hp zd9500 My I.T. put in a new hard drive the other day and it was running fine. Today I turned it on, it was booting up and then went completely dead - no lights, or anything. The power cord is working -...

You could test to see if hard drive is culprit by removing the drive. This is done by removing the access panel on bottom of laptop and slipping out the drive. Once out, try turning on laptop. It won't boot up, but you should get power light on.
I suspect you will not.
If so, problem is in power supply within laptop. Fixing requires a full diagnostic check of the power supply and battery charger. I highly recommend a trained technician for that.

Cannot turn on my LG Notebook anymore

Will the laptop boot with the power adapter connected and battery removed? If so, boot it up and install the battery once it's booted up. If okay now, the battery was just really really drained. If okay with no battery but no good with battery, the battery may be bad, or something in the charging circuit may be defective - keep the battery out or replace mainboard ($$$$ - get a new laptop)
If no good with ac adapter and no battery, test the adapter with an electrical meter. It should be putting out 18-19 volts. If not, try a replacement adapter. If adapter tests good but laptop won't boot with no battery, likely the mainboard.
Also - remove hard drive and try to power up. If good, replace hard drive. If no good, reinstall hard drive and remove ram and try to power up. If it powers up, clean the ram and slot contacts gently with a pink pencil eraser and try testing each ram chip in each slot, 1 chip at a time. If still no good, start shopping for a new laptop.

Let me know if this helps or not...

Power on after HD replacement.

If you changed nothing apart from the hard drive I would remove it and then try restarting the laptop. If you get an OS not found message then check the pins on the hard drive (and caddy if there is one).
