Gaggenau microwave BMP225110 - error code E138 comes up after only a few seconds of the microwave seeming to work then it stops. Any idea what is wrong and how to fix it pls?

I would suspect either door switches or an intermittent control circuit board, either of which can be repaired. Opening the door while cooking (without first hitting the STOP pad) is the primary cause of door switch failure over time. I have a text file on my site called "doorsw.txt" which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems. You can find the file via a Google search. It will help you check and replace the door switches if you or an able friend is so inclined. In some cases, the problem is a bad connection or a bad relay on the control board. That's something we see fairly often, and we repair them for only $32.50 nationwide.

Your model number prefix of 721 means it's made by LG / Goldstar.

F9 code on an LG means either a bad door switch or a loose door switch mount.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

This can be caused by slamming the door or by habitually opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

EE4 means the line voltage is too high. Usually this is fixed by resetting the voltage selector on the back.

The voltage selector may not look like a switch, looking rather like a metal panel that has to be taken off and reoriented. There will be a label next to it indicating a voltage number.

EE2 actually means that the control circuit senses that magnetron number 2 is not running.

It doesn't necessarily mean a bad magnetron.

This can be due to a bad or misaligned door switch (common), a failed relay (#3) on the control panel, or a failed high voltage component such as transformer #2, capacitor #2, rectifier #2 or magnetron #2 or loose connections anywhere along the chain.

We have a similar model's service manual on our site. Please not that yours may be different! Part numbers will probably not match. But it will help with safety, disassembly, discharge and diagnosis.

Just as I suspected...

The "element" as it is so inaptly misnamed in the case of this warranty document, is actually the "magnetron", which should normally have an extended warranty beyond the normal 1-year (I assume) parts and labor warranty anyway.

The magnetron may be the culprit here, but a thorough check of the points on my previously posted list is in order to determine the actual cause of the problem.

Since your husband is an engineer, I would suggest that he invite a colleague over to help and to provide some backup for any heavy lifting if it should need to be removed from the wall.

Safety first after all!

You can download Kitchenaid Whirlpool owner's manuals and installation instructions here in case it needs to be taken down during troubleshooting.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

Microwave keeps shutting off after a few seconds and error number H97 shows up on display pad. What does this error mean?


Error code H97 is an indication of a possible failure of the Magnetron, DPC board or the High Voltage Inverter board. It could be just a loose wire connection also between the DPC board and the High Voltage Inverter board.

This failure will require a service technician to diagnose and repair.

Step 1:


Door Switch




If the microwave runs for a few seconds and then shuts off, a door switch might have failed intermittently. Check each of the door switches for any signs of overheating, arcing, or burning. Also check each of them for continuity. Replace any of the switches that is visibly damaged or that only has continuity intermittently

Step 2:

Main Control Board




If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops there may be a short circuit in the main control board. Check other components first, these boards are often misdiagnosed.


Touchpad and Control Panel




If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the touchpad and control panel might be defective. There are several other components that can cause this problem, be sure to check any other components before replacing this board.

Touchpad




If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the touchpad might be at fault. This is not common. Generally speaking, if the microwave display is working and some of the buttons respond correctly but some don't, the problem is with the touchpad.

High Voltage Transformer




If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the high voltage transformer might have an intermittent short. This is not common. Check other components related to the microwave symptom first.

Thermostat




If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the thermostat might be defective. Watch our video on testing thermostat

Samsung microwave SMH8165W displaying error code -SE- and continuously beeps.


SE means system error, the keypad has a short in the membrane, or the control board has issues.

I have a Panasonic Dimension 4 Microwave/Convection "The Genius". The microwave stopped working? Can you advise?

Sharp R-9h91B microwave oven stopped working


If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work.

After a bit of digging, it appears to be an issue with the door not being closed correctly (or at least the it thinks is isn't.
