HDTV convergence going bad

Is there a way I can just buy the convergence board. What does it look like? Where is it located at? Is it near the front or back of the tv?

  • david6092 Jan 27, 2008

I'm having the same problem except the picture is only messed up around the perimeter of the TV. about 6" on the left and right sides and 3-4" on the top and bottom. The picture in the middle of the TV is good. I have a pretty good knowledge of electronics and believe I could fit it my self if I knew what exactly to replace. Thank you

willtab, I have the same TV with no convergence symptoms. I have some skill and tools for electronics repair and want to repair it myself. Can you please share more info with me too about how to narrow down which board is bad and which fuse to test and their locations\part #s. Thanks sincerely for your help.

Convergence is tricky.. there are three seprate boards that it is split with.. do you have NO convergece at all.. could be convergence power board...one color... convergence amplifer board.. it it could be the signal board.. there's even a chance it could be a descrete fuse... shoot me some more info..

Red blue and green lines on top on phillips hdtv. What can I do to fix it.

1.) This sounds like a convergence problem--with the original remote go into the customer menu and select convergence--see if red or blue will not move in some direction.

2.) If some color (red or blue) will not move in some direction--you need to replace both of the STK-392-120 CONVERGENCE IC'S THAT THIS SET USES along with any of the green 6.8 ohm resistors around them that are discolored(bad).

3.) With the back cover removed the chips are on the left large board on two metal heat sinks with fins--they are black and about 2 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches tall and the STK-392-120 is printed on the face of them in white. The resistors are in front of the one near to the front of the circuit board and left to right around several plugs there(convergence yokes).

4.) You can buy both chips on Ebay for about 13 dollars plus shipping; If you are able to do this repair you can save a lot of money---after the chips and or resistors are replaced you need to go into the Convergence Tech mode(I can tell you how to access it) and adjust the convergence in first the regular non Hd and then in the Hd.

5.) Most shops TRY to charge 300-400 for this kind of repair--I have done hundreds of them here for 200-250.

6.) If you are not able to do this repair shop around your area for someone who can do it---if a shop says "It has to go to the shop" keep looking----any good tech can do this repair in your home in about 1 hour.

7.) If you have any questions or need advice reply to this posting.

I do this here for free so if this information has been helpful please take a minute and give me a vote here-----I am here to help people.

IC's

Take the board out through the front inspection hole. No screws holding board. Middle large plug disconnects from chassis, not converge board. All other plugs come off converge board.

If the large plug is a problem, just hang out the front and solder.

Be careful with foil on board, crappy board.

Pacific Semi for ICs.

How to do convergence on a JVC 56 in rear projection HDTV

. It is more difficult than batteries on a remote.

You access the convergence board through the inspection plate that is located behind the front speaker grill.

You remove the board, determine if any resistors are burnt, replace any burnt or out of tolerance resistors, replace 1 or 2 IC's and re-install the board.

Now you have to adjust it to look like new.

If you haven’t misadjusted it too badly, do the auto focus and it is back to where it was before IC failed. If it is still misadjusted badly, then resistors may be wrong value or open.

If you live around Calgary, try me instead:

or try the find a repairperson part of this website, maybe you will be lucky and someone is listed nearby.

Most rookies doing this job will cause damage and not be successful, and pay double for someone to fix their mess.

Sony HS30 Convergance Issue

The STK ICs are located on the D board their locations are IC801 and IC 802 they are both STK392-560 and you will only have to remove the D board. Usually only 1 or 2 resistors go bad right next to the ICs heatsink. You can get replacements at the following link and they include installation instruction plus free tech support heres the link.

I have a rca hdtv r52wh77 1 year old ,i have color problems ,i cant get to the convergence set up ,please help.thks

Try looking at the main board very near the flyback and you should see 3 fuse links (they look like hard capacitors) one of them is probably open causing lack or power to the convergence board by way of the ribbon seated close to the vertical output IC

Convergence problem

This is by far the easiest TV to replace the convergence ic's - you don't even have to take the back off! Remove the front panel by removing the screws on the back edges secured to the front to the cabinet, also remove the small screw behind the front control door - the front comes off - remove access panel, there you will see the convergence board right in front - unplug the connectors to the board - pull it out and replace the ic's (2)part# STK392-110. Also check for any burnt or discolored resistors near the ic's - they may need replacing
