OK 2000 Tahoe brake pedal switch which wire color is hot wire and witch wire color should feed power to brake light when you push pedal down. Also the colors at switch do not match color at bulb!

ok so unplug the thing and stick a voltmeter in it, the hot side is obvious-if neither side is hot then you know you need to start troubleshooting the circuit-I would start with the brake fuse.

As a rule, the wire that has a colored tracer, ( simply a stripe, a different color than the wire ) will be the "Hot" lead. The other is more than likely black.

Replace power cord

When a plug wire is replaced say on a stereo there is no hot or neutral it makes no difference which wire goes where there are instances where hot and neutral are a concern but not with a 2 wire plug that is not separated by color if you have 2 white or 2 black then there is no order just wire and go.When color is in question the wires will be colored I hope this helps.

Out of the white wire and black wire which is hot coming from the fuse box?in order to hook up light switch

Usually the black is Hot, and connects to brass colored screw on switch.
Test each wire to bare ground wire, and tester lights up on Hot wire.
What are you wiring?
What is a mobile?
What terminals are you connecting to? What color is each screw terminal?
What voltage are you using? Only 120volt single-phase has 1 hot wire.
If you have split-phase 230V from UK or 240Volt in US, then both wires can be hot.

There is a wallplate with 2 outlets and 2 switches that control 2 separate lights. while trying to install new switches and outlets, wires came loose and now I have no idea what is what.

Open following link to see illustration:

Each residential electric box has 1 hot wire. This wire should be black.
Hot wire carries power from the breaker box.
Use tester and find hot wire.

Each device in box connects to the black hot wire using short jumper wires.

Outlets: Hot wire connects to brass colored screw.
Single-pole switches: Hot wire connects to either brass-colored screw.

Neutral wires are usually white, and are twisted together.
Neutral wires connect directly to silver screw on each outlet.

Wire going to lights connects to other brass screw on each switch.

The wiring neutral (white) and hot (black) wire have dislodged from the thermostat. The thermostat is not marked. Also the wire colors are white and not marked. When you plug into the electrical...

Well in the UK & Europe, AUS & NZ, the black wire is neutral.

Any other colored wire (except green) is know as live/active/hot.

Use a tester, one touching the metal casing or earth & the other to see if the wire is hot/live/active.

I need to know what screws are for what 2 black, 1 gold 1 silver

You are install a switch-receptacle combo.

As you have realized, screw color is the key.
1) Black hot wire connects to dark colored screws.
Both dark screws are connected together with brass plate, so hot wire only needs to connect to one of the dark screws.

2) Wire going to Load (light, fan, motor) connects to brass colored screw.

3) White neutral wire connects to silver colored screw.

4) Lets look at problem as if new wiring device is replacing old on-off switch that has two wires.
So old on-off switch has two wires >> one is black hot wire, and other is wire going to load.
Separate wires, turn on power and test each wire to bare ground wire.
Tester lights up on hot wire. This wire goes on dark screw.
If old on-off switch had another wire connected with the hot wire, that wire also goes on the dark screw.
The other wire from old switch is the Load wire, and it connects to brass colored screw.

Now you need a neutral wire.
In back of box are white wires twisted together and covered with wire nut.
These are neutrals.
To confirm that these wires are neutrals >> turn on power and test hot wire to other wires in box. Tester lights up on neutral.
Neutral wire connects to silver screw, and this will complete the circuit for any electric device plugged into receptacle.
If box does not have neutral wires as described above, you can violate code and connect bare ground to silver screw >>> but do NOT do this if your new plug is going to be used regularly.
You can use bare ground temporarily until additional wiring is made available.

Electrical cable for the power pulled out of machine

Ground wire will be GREEN or bare copper wire. White neutral wire will go to chrome colored AC terminal. BLACK(or maybe brown or other darker color) hot wire goes to brass colored terminal.

If terminals on dishwasher are not chrome(white metal) and brass(yellow metal) colored, then you must look for other ID on Dishwasher side. If terminals or wires on dishwasher side are not a different color, then it does not matter which of the two AC wire, neutral or hot, goes to which. The ground wire is the safety wire against against shock from fault hot wire getting to chassis of washer.

Humming sounds more like dishwasher is in the middle of a timing cycle, but I could be wrong and it is sometimes best to find someone to look at your washer when electrical wires are being hooked up.
