thank you Brad, I know I need to push up and twist, but I cant get my fingers in enough to twist - It is a Bernina 807. the door housing the light fitting only opens a little way - no where near enough room for hands to get in...

There are some special tools available from other sewing machine vendors that use something like a rubber suction cup to grip the bulb. In my case, my fingers are small enough that with rubber glove (grippy--I use rubber garden gloves), I can use my finger tip to push up and the grip allows me to turn the bulb.

Depends on your model machine. If it is a bayonet light bulb, you need to push up and then twist. The other is simply a screw-in bulb.

How do I change a light bulb in my Bernina 707?

I don't have a 707 but do have a 530-2 Record. Unfortunately, with some of these older machines, Bernina did not provide a very good method for accessing the light bulb. On later machines, the side cover would either be hinged or removable. If yours doesn't have this capability, the only way of changing the bulb is by reaching in with your fingertips, gripping, and turning the bulb to remove it and then installing the new bulb in the reverse manner (difficult for someone with big fingers). Sometimes it helps to use thin rubber gloves (like the surgical type), lightly moisten the finger tips to provide more "grip." There is also a sewing tool available that is somewhat like a pencil with a rubber suction at the end made specifically to help with replacing sewing machine bulbs. If you are creative, you may be able to fashion something similar.

Have you tried LED bulbs? I've installed them in all my Berninas. They provide a lot more light and do not get as hot as the regular bulbs--as well as, they supposedly last much longer! They seem expensive at the outset but if I never have to change a bulb again, so much the better!

In case you need it, here is the manual for your machine:

How do I change the light bulb on my Bernina 1530?

You might check out some of the older Bernina manuals to get an idea of how it may work in your machine. The 1260 is the closest manual available. Looks like your machine takes the same push-in bulb. So, you would push up on the bulb and twist. Then you would install the replacement the same way. Sometimes, using tight fitting medical gloves helps grip the bulb in order to twist.

BTW--I have older Berninas and upgraded their bulbs to LED.

How to remove a light bulb cap from overlocker sewing machine

There are two ways to do this Agatha, and I have done it both ways.

Pull the glass globe of the light from the base. Use a dinner knife to push into the bulb base until it grips, release a little and turn anticlockwise.

Pull the glass globe of the light from the base. Use a pair of needle nose pliers and grip the edge of the base between the jars. Whilst maintaining grip, twist the pliers anticlockwise. This will roll the thin base around the pliers, loosen the base in the fitting and make it very easy to unscrew.

Put a little Vaseline or oil on the new bulb threads and don't overtighten it.

Let me know how you get on Agatha by way of COMMENT below my post.

How do you change bulb on singer curvy 8763? Nothing in manual, nothing online. Can it be replaced? Seems to be soldered in or something and no replacement listed either.

The Singer Curvy 8763 bulbs are LED bulbs so they should last for 100,000 hours (or probably the life of the sewing machine). Thus the bulbs aren't meant to be user replaceable. Unfortunately, even though the bulbs should last for years, Singer only provides a one year warranty on them. Thus if your machine doesn't have working lights and isn't still in that first year, you'll have to pay for the repair.

I hope this helps and wish I had better news for you if there is a problem with the lighting of your sewing machine.

I can not figure out how to change the light bulb. It is NOT listed in the manual. Please help.

Cannot help without knowing the make and model of your machine. Perhaps searching the internet (YouTube is a good source) for your machine make/model + replace light bulb will provide some assistance.

How to replace light bulb at Pfaff Creative 2124?

On these machines you cannot open the left side to remove the bulb. Your machine accessory kit should have come with a rubber tool that is ribbed with a cup-shaped opening on either end. This is a tool for removing the bulb. Tilt the machine with the base facing up so you can see where the bulb is and use this tool to twist the bulb gently. It sould come out with no problem! Hope this helps!

Found "Discount Sewing Mahcine Sevice", 9112 Greenridge Lane, Bloomington, IN 47401, part number "Light Bulb #676". They were $1.95 each, add shipping. Bulb is a little different, but fits fine and seems to have good life.
