Question about LG LFX25960ST Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator
I like many of you experienced the smell of burning plastic in my 13 month old refrigerator (model LFX25960SW) yesterday. I am just shocked that this could actually happen AND that this many people have been dealing with this. I have contacted LG CS and a service tech will be here tomorrow morning and SUPPOSEDLY repair under warranty. My big question is: Will this happen again and is this truly a fire hazard? What if this happens during the night? Is my family in danger? If somebody has concrete evidence that it is not a hazard I would like to know so I can sleep at night. We've liked the unit up until now, and hate to just through away a $2,000 fridge!!
I just had the same thing happen yesterday. The Sears repairman has been and gone, and he has advised me that LG has issued a Service Alert for the problem. They have created a new panel for the fridges with a thermostat that measures the temperature of the lights and shuts them off if they get too hot. In addition, he is going to replace the motherboard of the computer in the fridge. I feel that LG should send notifications to retailers that sell this product and that every purchaser of these fridges made in 2006 should be alerted to this potential problem.

I had the same thing happen to my LG LFX25950SB French door style. It is out of warranty but when I called 1-800-243-0000 LG customer service, they were vary helpfull. The CSR instructed me to take the lightbulbs out and he scheduled a service tech out within 5 days. No charge for parts or labor. I must admit I am impressed.

LG Knows about this design flaw. That is why all of their refers built after 2006 have LED lighting. I have had mine melt two times already. The first time they said my warranty had expired and I would have to pay for it. I got a manager on the phone and complained of a safety hazard. They sent someone out and fixed it at no cost to me. It just melted again! now I have to go through the whole mess again!

This is not a trivial problem of someone leaving the door open and having a plastic part come in contact with the bulb. Read here:
I have had 3 service calls on this issue and the problem still exists. There is simply a design flaw that they either can't or is unwilling to fix that causes the light to stay on even when the door is closed. Anyone who owns one of these units should *immediately* replace the bulbs with CFL or LED bulbs to make sure there is no fire danger. Also, don't trust them when they say it's fixed. That's what they told me after each service call. I've got LED bulbs in there now so if it stays on, it won't melt, burn, or spoil food.

when he comes tomorrow watch what he does so you know what he did and why its doing that. maybe ask him to just cut the part off thats close to the bulb, I dont know if its the interior bulb, if it is then the bulb is on only when you open the door and its minor and cosmetic, if its the interior bulb just have them leave the bulb cover off untill LG comes up with a fix for you. If its something else you may have to get ahold of the company and see about this design flaw..
