Question about Sewing Machines

2 Answers

When I sew the thread doesn't catch on the hook behind the bobbin case and leaves gaps in the sewn item as much as 2-4 inches. How do I fix it? Can't afford to take it to a repair shop. Thanx, Cindy

First, install a brand new needle. A bent/damaged needle will frequently skip stitches. Also, be sure you are using the correct needle for the fabric and thread you are using, ie do not use a ball-point needle on woven fabric.

If you've tried all the suggestions and it is still skipping stitches, the machine may be out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

If it has been sewing good and you have not hit the needle on the foot plate causing it to break, I am thinking that the needle thread is not as tight as it should be
increase that tension up a bit and test sew on scraps of material
keep adjusting up till it sews right

Why does bobbin thread keep snagging?

increase the needle thread tension up a bit as it is too loose to pull the bobbin thread up properly
keep adjusting until both threads are at the middle of the materials being sewn

The bobbin case catches the needle and the thread wraps around the bobbin case

If you are saying the needle is hitting the bobbin case when it goes down then it could be one of two things:

1. Bobbin case not all the way in. This can be caused by debris in the rotary hook or the bobbin case has been hit by the needle and has cracked/and or bent it. Make sure it is snapping into place correctly.
2. The rotary hook is out of time. Reset the rotary hook point behind the needle and about the middle of the scarf of the needle. Make sure you run the needle all the way down and as it starts back up this is where you set the hook.

Bernina 1080 Solution for "back spin"? Top thread suddenly becomes very loose. Top thread forms loops under cloth being sewn.

Try these suggestions
1. Change the needle--use a needle that's for the fabric being sewed
2. Rethread the machine--top --make sure to use every thread guide
3. try a different bobbin--make sure bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case
& make sure the bobbin is turned the correct way in the bobbin case
4. make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever
5. Clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or threads
6. Check to make sure the bobbin is not warped or damaged
7. Make sure the bobbin case is correctly in the machine,, if it's a top loading bobbin you may need to have the bobbin case checked to see if it's damaged or see if the hook and hook race has a problem
8. Make sure the top thread tension is on the correct setting for the fabric being sewed.
9.Also could be a timing problem, and the machine would need to be checked.

I have a Necchi 4900 and the thread catches on the bobbin holder , moves the bobbin holder out of place , james , have taken it out cleaned everthing under the bobbin and takewn the underneath cover

try changing the needle to see if that helps
if it doesn't,, then I suggest that the sewing machine be checked
at a repair shop to see if the bobbin case needs to be replaced and
to see if the hook and the hook race need to be replaced

Bobbin thread will not pick up

Ensure the bobbin thread is mounted on correctly and using your right hand turn the gear that makes the needle go up and down until it catches the thread.

Machine is threaded but thread not sewing into material, just holes!

Check bobbin thread....Insert the bobbin thread into the bobbin case in a clockwise direction...pull the thread through the **** on side of bobbin case and slide up into small opening...make sure you pull through about 2 inches of thread to enable upper thread to loop. Good Luck

Thread is clogging up under fabric and is not catching bobin thread

I have the same problem, I fix it by removing both Shuttle hook and Bobbin Case and tested it to see if the shuttle hook rotated freely within bobbin case. I noticed the screw for the tension spring was too high and was rubbing agaist bobbin case. Just tighten screw on spring and and recheck for rubbing.
