Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

I have a PMP2000 Powered Mixer 800 Watt. The last two times I've used it, it has made a single POP sound even though the volume is off - like a voltage spike, perhaps.

I should add that before and after the noise, it works totally fine. But the POP is quite loud.

SOURCE: Loud Noise - Spin Cycle

If the washer is making a squealing noise, the problem is more likely to be the basket drive. If it is more like a rattling sound, the centerpost bearings are probably worn out. Open machine's rear panel and spin the basket manually by turning the drive pulley, to find out from where exactly the noise come from. Defective part should be replaced. Good luck !!

SOURCE: Volume control unresponsive

The LED didn't turn on ,indicate the DC pwr was missing , you need to ensure there is a Dc supply to the speaker unit, once you got the LED on you will be able to control the volum.

SOURCE: Marantz 2220B with Sound Problem at Half volume

The most likely cause of this is some DC current working its way through the system. WIthout taking some measurements, it will be difficult to confirm this though. This should not be an expensive repair. Figure on $20 or so for parts (capacitors mostly).

Your woofers are probably blown. To check plug a 1/4 inch or speakon into the speaker cabinet with the two bare wires exposed on the opposite end and touch with a 9volt flat battery if the driver doesn't move ir sound it's blown

All sound equipment has to operate without overloads in any given place. The power source should always be examined at commercial gigs and worked out with other performers along with management. The only fix is to do these checks up front and make safe arrangements.

My band plugs into the input channels on the SX2442FX mixer, which we then hook up to the PMP2000 to use as a PA. Since the SX2442FX is not a "Powered" Mixer, I figured that we should be going...

Either way will work, however your friend's method probably would be slightly better since it goes through less stages within the PMP2000. The "left and right power amp inputs" are the INPUTS to the power amp in the PMP2000 and hence are the best places to connect the mixer if using the PMP2000 as only a power amp. Note doing this will LIKELY disconnect any other input to the PMP2000 from the power amps in it... that is all the preamps in the PMP2000. DO USE TRS cables!!! and power both units from the same receptacle to avoid ground bounce.

Brand new, distorts intermittingly. Used same Speakers with other similer amps Mackie 808 Yamaha etc. with no problem . It sounds good when it does''nt distort

Common causes of this are improper level setup. You MAY be overdriving the inputs. Use the pad buttons to limit the input for higher output devices. Saturating the input(s) will cause bad distortion. Observe if any of the clip indicators are coming on. If they do, then use the pad buttons. If they still come on due to very high output device, you MAY have to use an external attenuator. Every mixer has different characteristics and some can accept a wider inout range than others.

How can a PMP 2000 be patched so that both internal amps are used to power the monitors, and the mains are sent from the mainpre-out to another power amp, while using one internal eq for the mains, and the...

No you can't quite do this since the EQ's are right before the power amps in the signal flow. The monitor output would drive two 8 ohm speakers daisy chained at roughly 300 watts RMS... I can't imagine needing more than that for a venue that is within the capabilities of this unit.
You can drive both power amps by the monitor output by setting the mon/main function on the switch and using a short TRS cable jumper between MONITOR PREAMP OUT and the RIGHT POWER AMP INPUT jack. Drive your mains from the LEFT PREAMP OUT. The EQ's will ONLY affect the monitors. Use an external EQ if you need to EQ the mains with this connnection. Use TRS balanced cables to the main amp and CONNECT all interconnected equipment to the SAME power source or receptacle, even if it means running an extension to the mixer.

Is my Behringer Powered Mixer PMP2000 cooling fan suppose to run continuosly. It has a distracting hum in our small church. I don't remember it always running (fan) when we first started using it? Help :-[

Sorry, the fan is thermally controlled and USUALLY will run at low speed when unit is lightly loaded. In hot weather or driven hard it will run faster and louder.

Whatever you do, do NOT block airflow... these are a dual 400 Watt continuous amp (600 a side peak) and they need to breathe !!!

If you can duct cool air to it, that will help. You could also try sound absorbing baffles while maintaining adequate clearance for airflow.
