Are these bearings in the fan housing or the piece connected to the rear of the fan motor?

Hello William T Landrum,

There are bearings ... (of some sort) in every motor in creation.
(fine watches have jewel bearings, in-expensive = plastic
(cars = Babbitt, yours likely bronze))

If it turns easily with the fingers... it is likely NOT THE BEARINGS.
((BAD BEARINGS ANNOUNCE THEMSELVES))

My problem is I don't have any idea what your "110" means... I do know there was a PACKARD (auto) with that nomenclature...
but you'd be called stumpy if you had stuck your fingers anywhere in those fan-BLADES. Hewlett-Packard later had a cheesy little cooling fan (less than $5)... but I know we would not be ...

What... I know nothing (but that's your special secret.

Rather than press you for any MEANINGFUL data about
what FAN you might actually be talking about... I'll simply suggest you go to GRAINGER... or DAYTON motor supply and start looking there...

My experience with motors not starting... usually meant their CAPACITOR had gone bad.

So... 110...?? Why are you being so cryptic?

What's that? Line voltage? - - Never-mind...!!
It's probably a mini (muffin from an HP or old COMPAC ($5)

A drop of fine oil will get you another 5% of the fans LIFECYCLE... which is why they are USUALLY JUST replaced... because
of the labor to get to it... and a wee static spark will destroy the entire mother-board... while you are trying to save a nickle...

((I'm just saying... food for thought)).

How to change the belt on dryer


CHANGING THE DRIVE BELT
1. Remove the top cover and the rear panel.
2. T720/780: Remove the external fan housing.
3. Remove the special tool.
4. Remove the belt from the belt pulley and take off the belt.
5. Feed the belt over the drum onto the motor shaft and over the belt pulley.
6. Install the special tool.
7. T720/780: Replace the external fan housing.
8. Replace the rear panel and top cover.

REMOVING THE TOP COVER
1. Remove the three T20 screws at the rear of the top cover. (Keep the two star washers.)
2. Tilt the cover and pull it backwards.

1. Remove the top cover.
2. Unscrew the centering nut until the face of the nut is level with the end of the thread and knock out the bearing.
3. Fit the special tool (part no. 88 011 54) by fitting the tube end into one of the stamped out keyholes in the front rail. Lift the rear edge of the drum and press the drum edge onto the roller.
4. Remove the ground connection (yellow/green wire) from the input terminal block (see pages 8 and 9).
5. Take the cable bundle out of the cable clamp and pull the header block off its terminal pins.
6. Remove the wiring:
T700/T720: R1 a, R1 b, R1 13, R1 14, R1 34 on the contactor.
T760/T780: Ra, Rb, R13, R14, R34 on the contactor and F3 and F4 on the radio interference filter.
7. T720/T780: Remove the hoses to the water tank housing.
8. Remove the centering nut and the eight screws.

NOTE: Do not remove or loosen the screws around the heater housing or drum bearing.

9. T720/T780: Remove the three plastic screws at the lower part of the rear panel.
10. Lift off the rear panel.

Fan burning smell


Just did this and made all the difference in the world in my fan. It was not turning much at all and had noise too. Now it spins freely, like new.

And I never attempt to do anything with the front and rear bearing themselves - too much work, and cleaning the shaft does the job for me. I use a very fine machine oil that I bought at Sears, but I think any good oil would work. Only one fan working


There are two causes of your problems:
1. The fan needs you to manually turn it to start running.
Problem: The motor bearings both ends are dried out.
Solution:
1. Remove the motor/fan from the motor housing (there are two screws that hold the motor to the housing. The only way I know how to get to the screw is to bend one of the fan blade up and use a long screw driver to get to the screws.
2. Remove the two screws that hold the bearings to the motor.
3. Detach the bottom bearing (opposite of the fan end.) You might have to use a flat screw driver to pry the bearing off.
4. Use a Q-tip and soak it with motor oil or grease then lubri- cate the fan end shaft/bearing.
5. Use a Q-tip + alcohol to clean up the bottom bearing hole, then lubricate it with grease or motor oil.
6. Put the motor and bearings back together and make sure that the fan can turn freely now.
7. Install the motor/fan back into it housing.
The fan should turn on its own without you helping it.
If the fan won't turn, you have a bigger problem. See below.

2. The fan won't turn at all and is really tight even when you try to
turn it by hand.
Problem: The transformer coil(s) is/are burnt out. Chances are you let the fan run dry to a point that it squealed and started to smell like it was burning before it quit all together.
Solution 1:
1. Remove the filters and their housing on the bad fan side.
2. Duct tape a piece of plastic over the bad fan opening.
3. Run the humidifier with one fan. It works just as well.

Solution 2:
1. Buy a new humidifier.
2. Make sure you lubricate the bearings as soon as the motor begins to squeal.

Solution 3: You need knowledge of electricity
1. Take the motor/fan out from the housing.
2. Use a vote meter to check the resistance in both coil of the transformer; should read about 17 ohms. The coil(s) that has a high reading or if the meter shows 'OL' is bad. Remove the Yellow tape from the coil to see if you have a loose soldering joint between the coil wiring the electrical cord. If yes, solder the joint back together, check the resistance again to make sure you have about 17 ohms. If the answer is yes, put the yellow tape back on the coil and use electrical tape to secure the tape. Hopefully, the fan should work now. Good luck!

Fan sweaks, is it a bearing?


Vornado makes several fan models. Whether yours has ball bearings, sleeve bearings or another type is unknown. Most manufacturers of consumer grade fans use "permanently lubricated bearings" and require no additional lubrication by the owner "for the life of the fan".

If yours does accept lubrication, you should find a "filler neck" at the front and rear of the motor housing - directly over the motor's shaft (that the fan blade is attached to). A few drops of a light bodied machine oil in each should quiet the squeaking sounds (if coming from the bearing). If there is no such filler neck on the fan, you could unplug the fan and rest it on its back - fan aimed straight up. Squirt a couple drops of oil on the shaft - close to the motor. Because the fan is pointed straight up, gravity will draw the oil down the shaft into the bearing. You may not be able to access the shaft at the rear of the motor without some dis-assembly however. You should not attempt dis-assembly if you're not sure how to go about it. After the oil has run into the bearing, you should spread out newspaper or rags under the fan(or better yet - brought outside - before powering it on, as some oil may be cast off the shaft if it spins fast enough or if there was an excessive amount of oil applied to the shaft.

Copied this from someone else who fixed his fan. Tried it and it made a world of difference. Spins free and easy, no more noise.

The fan is making a "scratching" noise.


Hi steffmarin...
The scratching noise is one of two problems.
1.noisy fan bearings, cannot be lubricated, must be replaced (big job), or replace fan....
2. Plastic/rubber bearing up near the ceiling...the fan will be connected to it.
Sometimes when they get dry they get noisy.
You can spray the plastic/rubber bearing with a little WD-40 and it will hold the noise quite for a while...be sure to "wiggle" the fan around after spraying to distribute the WD-40) evenly.
If your noise problem is this then problem solved.

Noise in freezer..sounds like the blower fan .Still blowing air in but makes noise


Good day,
A fan motor with bad bearings is not unusual, Remove the panels, and inspect the fan motor. On occasion a piece of ice could be hitting the blade.
If not you'll need to replace the motor. If you try to oil the bearings, it may help for a while, but the bearings are usually scored.
Most appliance parts houses will carry the motor. If you don't take the motor with you, make sure you have the complete model number with you.
On GE machines, it's recommended you change the blade as well.

Fan and bearing replacement on a Kirby G6


if you run your vac to long after the fan is broke it will cause excessive vibration and the bearings can go out. in almost all cases i replace the fan only. most of the time if you have a bad bearing the vac will make a grinding noise. you can also tell a bad bearing by grabbing the belt pulley on the end of the fan and pull up and down if it moves alot then your bearing is also bad. you can get the bearings separate witout ordering the armature assy. when talking of replacing any of these parts besides the fan i would advise you to take your vac to your local repairman. working on motor parts of a kirby can get pretty involved. to replace the fan first take the housing off where your belt and brushroll are. you should then see 5 screws on the front of your kirby. remove all 5 screws. then remove the handle. at the very bottom of your handle you will see a piece that allows you to move the handle, on the back side of this you need to push in with your thumb and the handle should pull off. then you should see a plastic piece directly below that snaps into the top housing. remove the 2 screws from this. one where the cord boot is and one above your power drive neutral/drive lever. then under this plastic piece is 2 more screws on your top housing. when these are out your housing should pull off. if not then remove the bottom plastic housing of your outer bag. then go back and look at the front again and you will find since removing the top housing you have exposed 2 more screws in the front fan cover housing that also need to come out. after this pry this housing off and you should be looking directly at the fan. grab fan with pliers in one hand and with the other hand apply pliers to the silver belt pulley and turn this piece clockwise. it should unscrew and then you can pull your bad fan off and attach the new one. i hope this helps and remember its not as hard as i probably made it sound. good luck!!!!
