If the start cord is on the shaft side of the motor , there is no centrifugal clutch to break the rotation of the head so the idle speed is not the problem
it is a design problem and you can move on to a better unit that does have a clutch

Weedeater starts but won't keep running

Grow a third arm or have someone follow you pumping while you trim :-).

The fuel pump is part of the carburetor body. You could disassemble it and see if something is stuck in one of the flappers that make up the pump or it may be broken and need a replacement. It's just a thin plastic piece in there that makes it pump using engine vacuum pulses to drive it.

Tk carb ? sthil trimmer has 3 adj screws ,how do you adj?

One adjustment screw (probably Phillips-head) is the Idle speed adjustment screw. Turn it in, to increase idle speed (it moves the throttle plate)...turn it out to slow idle speed down. The other 2 screws are the Low mixture screw and the High mixture screw. The L screw is closest to the engine and is used to adjust the engine at IDLE. The H mixture screw is to be adjusted when the engine is at wide-open throttle to get the proper RPM's....not too little and not too much. Here is a tutorial by Zama carburetor reiterating what I have just told you and HOW to go about your adjustment.

I have a troy built string trimmer. will not start, no spark. have checked the kill switch and it's ok. Would the module be the next thing to check? Thanks

the pick up that runs beside the flywheel would be the next place to go, if there is a module you might just replace module and pickup together..

My trimmer is about 8 years old. It has worked well with minimum servicing. I change the spark plug and air filter annually and it starts without much problem - other than it races with or whout my hand...

Try backing off on the Idle Speed Adjustment screw. Most all of them on these machines are Philips head and they press against the throttle plate on the carb so you can adjust idle speed once the carb is tuned correctly. The correct idle speed is set when the string head does NOT turn.

Makita gas trimmer RBC221. engine runs fine but trimmer head does not turn.

would suggest that the cable that runs the head is broken or there is too much material wrapped around the head... remove the engine off the trimmer and check the cable that runs to the head....

Can I re-string the trimmer head or do I have to buy a whole new one. I have aEM4251CA string trimmer

You can restring it. If you don't have the manual to show you how to do it bring the head with you to a tool hire shop that deals in garden machinery and they'll supply it and show you how to fit it.

Cutting head on 29cc trimmer will not stop rotating at idle, cleaned filter, changed oil, cleaned spark arrester, tried adjusting idle speed, nothing seemed to help

You didn' t list the model number. Have you tried placing the head on the grass? does it stop then? It has a centrifugal clutch, if the idle speed is too fast, it will spin. There could be a broken spring or dirt in the clutch keeping it engaged.
