Question about Nikon D80 Digital Camera

2 Answers

I have a Nikon D80. A few months ago, the SD card would not stay in the slot, then for no reason it started working normally agan. Now it won't stay in again. It doesn't catch when you push it in, it just pops back out. Is there anything I can do or do I need to send it to Nikon for repair?

I have had the camera several years and normally have no problem. I have tried to push the card in gently and also firmly. It still pops out either way.

The sd card slot is designed in such a way that when you push your card inside the slot till the deepest part and when yout leave it, it fits into the slot. if you want to take the card out you have to push the card again till the deep and leave to get it out.(just like a spring aided trap). i dont think that your slot is damaged.may be you are unsure how to insert the card in the slot. if you still find problems, please write back.

It's probably a failure of the card holder. Happened on my D80. Unfortunately a repair involves sending it to Nikon to replace a big part of the camera. The UK cost is £190 (ca 300 USD) + VAT + labour

SD card won't stay in the slot of my Panasonic Lumix DMC-SL80

is the lock on the card by chance. also depending on how old the camera is and how big the sd card is in gb. the lumix may not be able to handle that size of card, too many gb. My lumix would only accept up to 4 gb, so when I moved to 16 they did not work.

You can try to a SD card adapter for the USB slot and download without the camera. The adapter is pretty cheap and sometimes comes with the SD Card.

The PC reads the camera as an external drive, make sure your PC and OS is up to date.

Format the SD cards with the camera. You might have to do a software upgrade on the camera since the Kodak card files are different than Nikons.

SD Card (2GB YES Make) Gives Formatting error

If you have a card reader or a printer with an SD card slot in it, try formatting the card or deleting all files on it using a PC. My laptop has a slot built-in I'm able to use. Check out your options. Try formatting it outside of your camera. I've heard of some card swapping between brands of cameras doing crazy stuff as you are experiencing.

D80 : Memory Card Fit

I know that an SD card could lose it's little lock if it is damaged, the worse place is in the slot where it would block another card from seating fully. (don't force it) Even in a padded case if the sd cards are sliding around loose the can get damaged or even get dirt, lint or fuzz in the "lock".  If this has happened don't probe around in there, if you do there may be further damage done, that one a camera repair shop might be able to do or you may have to send it to Nikon for repair.  Don't have the camera on or even the battery in if you can't resist trying and don't stick anything metallic in the slot.
