Unfortunately, you're a bit stuck. The only way of removing a passcode without knowing it is to restore from an iPad backup when the passcode wasn't applied.
My advice would be to take it to an Apple Store, and explain the situation. They're always very helpful, and may be able to do something about it.

You can do this using itunes go to http://ipad.about.com/od/iPad_Guide/ss/How-To-Restore-An-iPad-To-Factory-Default.htm it will show you how to do it. Hope this helps.
