If your son cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your iPad using the computer you last synced your iPad with. Using the last computer you synced with allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync all your data, apps, etc.
To begin the process, connect the iPad to your computer using the USB cable or lightning cable. Open iTunes and select the restore option.
If you restore on another computer, you can still unlock the device and remove the passcode, but your data and apps will be wiped.
Hope that helps!

You can't. You will have to connect it to a computer with iTunes, sign in to you Apple account, back up your data and then do a Factory Reset which clears all the data off it. After resetting, go through the wizard to set it up and then restore the data.
If you tried to enter 10 times or more, the SIM card, (if you use it for calls) will be disabled and you will need a new one from you cellphone carrier.
The information I have given you is confirmed in this article. If there were some easy way to bypass or recover a password, it would lack the security it was designed to do. It is only 4 numbers for heavens sake and you are using it multiple times a day! I use the last 4 digits of a memorable phone number. You can also do pattern repeats, left hand side of key pad 1,4,1,4. Right hand side of key pad 3,6,3,6.
Most enquiries here are from people who have actually found an iPad or have a stolen one, so tutoring about passcodes is useless, but I have given the info to you :>)
How to Fix iPad When Passcode Has Disabled It

All of the Ipad interface is done through i-tunes. You have to connect there to do the setup or retrieve your setup. It doesn't seem to make sense, but that is the way Apple does it.
