SOURCE: Life Like train hesitates and stops altogether.

It sounds like you have eliminated the motor as the problem. Try cleaning all of the electrical contacts including the connections between rail sections and the hot rail with fine steel wool (make sure you clean up all of the remaining steel wool bits since they are conductive). If that doesn't work, look at the transformer output.

My train works intermittently. When it stops, I can tap it and it continues. The car light still works. I have 2 cars and it happens to both. Can there be a short in the track?

The problem is more than likely a poor electrical connection, it is not a "short" or it would not work at all no matter what you do. I suggest you clean the tracks and contacts with a Scotch Brite pad and wipe clean with Alcohol.

Bought a hp printer did not open it for 1 yr when i finally hooked it up the paper will not feed through.i noticed the 2 wheels in the back are not moving, any ideas on what it could be.

What is the make and model of the printer? Cleaning the "wheels" is not a bad idea. We generally use an alcohol based cleaner. But even that is a stop gap for the inevitible.

check all track connectors(squeeze lose ones with a needle nosed pliers..check wire from transformer to the track..and during assembly, the track gets any dust on it, the wheels wont make proper contact for the engine to run..) as for the locomotive.. sometimes you can clean the motor brush comutator with a simple pencils' erasure by rotating the motor armature by hand(small as it is) to clean the pickups on this..it will better help to transferr the electric into the motor..sometimes on these track layouts, you need fine grit sandpaper to run across the top of the rails as the manufaturer puts a protective coating on these.. it wont carry power to your train..you can also use the backside of a butterknife drug around the layout a few times with the electric off.. it helps you feel any rough spots on the track/layout..

Alaska Railroad #71 Problem

Before disassembling check the brushes (metal contacts) are making good contact with the loco wheels and are not blocked with fluff etc. Ensure the loco wheels are clean and shiny so that they pick up the track voltage ok. The brushes are made of sprung metal and transfer the voltage from the wheels via the track to the motor. Check that as well as clean and fluff free that they also have a strong springiness against the wheels for good electrical contact. If these appear ok then remove the loco bodywork and check the motor. You can apply a 12v supply directly to the motor contacts to test if it's running ok. If it does run ok then suspect the brushes and associated connections. If it does not run try moving the motor armature manually. If it is stuck it is probably time to replace it. If it moves apply a light machine oil and test again.

My 1941 Lionel train stops getting enough power to run all the way around the track. Voltmeter says 15 volts around all track and transformer says 15 volts. How do I test engine?

If your sure the loco contacts/wheels are clean and the track is ok then remove the loco bodywork and check the motor. You can apply a 12v supply directly to the motor contacts to test if it's running ok. If it does run ok then suspect and clean the brushes and associated connections. Electric train set stop and goes when it goes over certain parts of the tracks do I need to clean the tracks or the wheels and what do I use to correct this issue?

1: make sure all track connections are tight.
2: clean the track using a Green 3M scratch pad
or a track eraser.
3: clean your wheels, some people use smoke fluid
on a cloth, I use alcohol prep pads,. A track eraser
can also be used. there are commercial wire brush
cleaners that connect to your power source.

Kato locomotive doesnt run. Goes for a short time with spray of contact cleaner then stops

That means that your track is dirty. Your locomotive is picking up dirt from the track, which builds up. on the wheels. Use a track cleaner NOT alcohol... the alcohol does leave a residue on the track after it dries.

Check the power circuit that goes to the track if there is an open circuit, open circuit means, break or cut line that can not flow the current going to the track to give a power to the train, ok.
