SOURCE: Janome Memory Craft 9500 Troubleshooting

The solution that I found last night was the thread tension. I have never touched the dial, only had it set on 'auto." When I started playing with it, I realized the top thread should be really easy to pull through the machine and it wasn't. I started turning the dial (to 3 or 4) and the thread slid through the machine perfectly. No more birds nest! I really thought it was bobbin initially because of the horrible sound it was making.

SOURCE: consew 230 sewing machine...will not pick up bobber thread

needle should be 16x257 Industrial machine needle with no flat side.
It does have a long groove on one side and a scallop just above the eye of the needle on the other side. On this machine the needle is inserted so that the long groove goes to the left and it threads left to right.
The thread breakage may be caused by a rough place on the hook. You need to turn the machine on it's back and look and feel all the way around the hook assembly. If you find a rough spot it can be removed with an emery stick. If it's not a rough spot, then the machine is probably out of time.

My white 1800 jeans machine sewing maching is working but not stitching.

So the top thread is not picking up the bobbin thread? Try a brand new needle. If that doesn't work, then the machine is probably knocked out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

check and see if the feed dogs are above the needle plate when the needle is in the upright position, then check and see if you have tension in the upper and lower tension units, check this by putting the foot down and gently pulling on the upper thread and pull the lower thread up through the plate and see if it pulls easy or hard if hard then it is good one last thing are the feed dogs in the raised position

I have a 12 sticher Kenmore maching that won't lay down the stiches? Everything is threaded but the thread won't go into the fabric

Check the needle, make sure it is not in backwards. Groove in the needle to the front. If you are sewing on a knit you may need a ball point needle/needle for knits.

The top thread keep breaking. should the tension

Thread breakage is usually due to the needle in backwards, upper tension too tight or old/weak thread.

When replacing the needle, make sure that the flat side is to the right (3 o'clock position) and is pushed all of the way up before tightening.

What brand and weight of thread are you using and are you sewing with the foot or free motion sewing?

Inserting needle on old singer machine

Hi Terry--

If your machine is 40-50 years old, it might be a Singer Featherweight portable. (If it is, you have one of the very best machines ever made!) On the Featherweights, the flat of the needle faces left (and the needle is threaded from right to left). The bobbin goes in a bobbin case; you'll see a small notch when you look down on the bobbin in the case. That's where the thread goes. I'll email you direct with more information.
