SOURCE: Lanier Transcriber unit will not play

Most likley it is a bad motor or a broken belt. There is a seperate motor or FF and Rewind.. If the motor is bad it is likly that the motor control circuit board is bad also (motor shorts and takes out the board also). If there is no "click" when play is selected it could be the play solenoid is dirty and not engaging. I have repaired thousand of these units through the years and in spite of these issues they were a great sounding unit.

BTW this is true for the VW-210, VW-260, p-139 and simular units.

Someone will have to open the unit to see what is happening---either tape is not loading all the way or when FF or Rewind hit not moving the reels----could be as simple as a belt or a bad drive idler (most use either a rubber wheel or gears to move the tape in Play, FF, and Rewind.

Cd player door won't open

cd/rw drive has shifted due to unit being bumped, Tray is binding or blocked. Remove the back panel. Remove 4 screws on the bottom holding cd drive. Now you can push the drive slightly back. On the left side of the drive there is a white nylon cam. Push in with a screwdriver and the tray will open so you can manually remove your cd. You should be able to cycle the tray open and closed now. Replace the four screws but cycle several times after tightening each screw. Replace the back.

Teac A170S won't play, RW, FF, or record.

Hello
Can you hear the motor running, when you press any of the Play, Rew or FF buttons?. Just place your ear very close to the player and listen to it. If the answer is 'yes', the drive belt is broken or slipped off. You have to replace the drive belt. If the answer is 'no' the motor of your device's drive mechanism has damaged, and should be replaced. OK.

How to open the fujitronic ff606 digital tower fan

After taking out the 4 obvious screws in the back i had to take a small flathead around the sides of the casing (where the silver and dark grey meet, and there's a few notches on each side that you can pry on to get it to come apart. Might scratch up the casing a bit in the process so be careful on it.

Will not initalise DVD +RW

the spindle may need cleaning. if the spindle is dirty the disc will slip causing errors when burning discs.

to do this you will have to open the unit up and remove the drive from the machine.

undo the screws holding the casing together (7 In total) and remove the top of the unit

the drive is similar to a normal pc dvd drive and is held in a clamp

next undo the four screws holding the circuit board to the right of the drive and carefully move it to expose two of the four screws holding the clamp in place, the other two screws are already visible on the left hand side of the drive

now carefuly remove the two cables from the back of the drive and undo the four screws holding the clamp in place. you should now be able to lift the drive, still in its clamp, from the unit.

undo the four screws holding the drive in the clamp and slide the drive out

on the bottom of the drive there are four screws holding the casing together, remove these, and carefuly coax and tease the casing apart. dont use force, be gentle.

using a cotton bud and alcohol, carefuly clean the spindle, removing all dust and dirt. you may as well clean the lens and any other dirt from the unit whilst you have it open

put the machine back together by reversing these instructions

I used to repair these units and still own one. Each
one of the black side panels (control panel covers) is
held in place by four screws. After removing the
screws and control knobs, the right panel should come
right up. You may need to move the left hand panel
forward to clear the headphone jack before it can be
removed. From your description, it sounds like the
FF/play rubber tire is worn. After removing both side
panels, remove the cassette elevator. The elevator is
held in place by four screws. Two on each side of the
elevator. Pull the unit up, the FF/play and RR rubber
tires should now be clearly visable. Have you found a
video head yet?

Denon DRM 740 tape does not play

Just bought a unit from a thrift store. Found same problem; FF & RW OK, but play engages then stops. Also noticed buzzing noise when power turned on. Opened unit, found broken capstan drive belt. FF & RW driven from different motor. Buzz was drive motor running freely with no load - when power is on, capstan is driven all the time for fast play/record start. Replaced with rubber band, and it works --- now looking for replacement belt.
