When the dyson is turned on the suction goes to the wand when you tip the beater down you do not have as much suction you cant pick up lint.

The Dyson system is designed to operate the hose with the handle in the upright position. When the head is tipped down (floor vacuum position) it closes the opening to the hose/wand

I just bought a used Dyson DC07. Works good but

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To test this, please remove the wand from the machine and switch on, testing the suction from the top of the wand handle. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its strong from the hose itself, the wand is blocked and you will need to clear this.

If there is poor suction from the hose, you can remove this by unclipping it from the base of the machine and can then remove any blockages. It is also worth checking the hose for any splits or holes.

Dyson upright vacuum cleaner makes horrendous noise

It might be a simple as changing the clutch belt and the drive belt and cleaning out the brush roll. You can get replacement belts here:

The roller for my dyson does not turn and it does not pick up anything. Howevever, the hose suction is fine and I have checked all the places for dust blockages.

That means that the belt is stretched, worn or broken. You need to replace the belt. You can get replacement belts and view the manual with instructions here:

Suction through hose but not base

mine did the same when new, i checked all as above then i noticed that i could twist the round peice that will unplug) (right behind the carpet-bare floor knob) and then i got suction at the base to be able to vacuum the floors, then i notice that there was a peice of plastic broken off that actually pushed a black latch down when either pushing the handle all the way up or down this lets the round piece i'm talking about swap over from base suction to handle suction! hope this helps and everyone can understand what i'm talking about! you have to look close to see where the 2" by 2" piece of plastic is missing!

Switching suction mode?

That unit is supposed to automatically do it when you lock it into the upright position. When you do that you should immediately feel suction at the hose/handle. If you don't, you are probably either missing your U-bend Assembly or the valve that switches the suction over is out of place.

There is a 1-800 number on a sticker on that unit that you can call if you have too much trouble with it and Dyson can help you on the phone or set you up to take it into a repair center. I wouldn't avoid telling them it was a floor model though. ; )

Good Luck

I just purchased a DC07 Dyson vacuum cleaner. It is not vacumming my floor - I have hardly any suction at all. Do I need to activate something in order to initiate the suction?

With vac upright suction is sent to the hose ie top of vac handle when handle is tilted down to the user vacuum position it should send the power suction to the floor also make sure collection bin it in securely that make be the problem
