Question about Plumbing

Open Question

When my well pump kicks on there is one loud bang which sounds like it is coming either from the pressure tank or the pipe going to the pressure tank this is the only time it happens.

I replaced the pressure tank and pressure control valve about a year ago this just started happening

SOURCE: Boom and Bang Washing Machine

Bed sheets or comforters will often get out of balance in the spin cycle or during the rinse cycle. Throw some towels in there next time at least 5 big ones. They are engineered to take a little of this banging, it should only happen once in a while.

When you hook the pressure test guage to shrader valve on fuel rail what it reads is what the pressure is from pump, around 60 p.s.i. all you need to do is hook up the guage and turn on key, you do not have to turn engine over, and if pump is good it will shoot up to 58 or 60 right now.

SOURCE: 2000 gmc jimmy wont start fuel pump comes on and cuts off...

the fuel pressure if leaking could cause this the regulator is located under the intake plenum but you should smell gas .if you dont then most likely the pump is bad ,the pump will come on for 2 seconds when the key is on then go off it will not stay on with just the key on only when you crank it will it .so have your fuel pressure checked with a gauge.

SOURCE: Danze control valves producing loud water hammer

It sounds like your flow diverter isn't closing properly. Try removing the flow restrictors from the shower nozzle and see if that helps.

About every two weeks we have no hot water pressure. Cold water has pressure but not hot water.

Hi Nancy, What you have is called a VAPOR LOCK, What you can do is just what you are doing , But let's add a step to your wounderful job you are doing so far. Ok, yes OPEN your HOT FAUCET , DO Your steps but OPEN the RELIEF VALVE ( BLOW-OFF ) At heater unit. That's the TUBE that points to the floor by itself, OPEN UNTIL WATER comes out and your BANG sound happens,(may want to spin up slightly to put bucket under pipe) RELIEF VALVE pipe. This should help your problem. May need to repeat a couple of times in a row to complete your task. Hope this was helpful - Bill.

The problem is not in your pressure tank. Its in the well pipe going to the well, or down in the well casing. You have a leak in that pipe. This lets the pressure go down even when you have the whole house shut off. If you have a submersible pump, you will have to have it pulled and the pipe replaced. If its in the pipe going from the house to the well casing, you will have to dig it up and find the leak. Usually you will see water coming from the ground or the ground sunken in if there is a leak in the pipe from the well to the house.

Grundfos JPF4A pump. takes a long time to get up to prime then once it kicks in after running water it gets to 50 shuts of but drop pressure instantaneously and kicks back in again. The constant on off...

The check valve is bad. When the system builds up pressure and shuts off the check valve prevents water from dropping back down the well line. When the check valve goes bad water drops back down the well line and siphons water back out of the well tank causing the switch to kick on and off constantly. The check valve will between on the well line coming from the drop pipe. It may be making a constant rattling noise as pump is running. Replace the check valve and you should be fine. Also check the pressure in bladder tank it should be 2psi below the "cut-in" pressure for the switch.

When I turn on the tap, the water does not come right away

Sounds like the pressure tank isn't working right. The pressure tank should have air in it that is compressed by the water, so that when you open the tap, the air pressure should immediately begin pushing the water. Water is virtually incompressible, so you need that air to give you some volume to be compressed. After the air pushes the water for a moment, the pressure drops enough so that the pump kicks in to maintain and restore that pressure. If you don't have such a tank, that's the problem. If you do have such a tank, then it may be full of water and you will have to find a way to fill it with air. Or, perhaps the tank is not piped correctly. I hope you found this helpful. Good luck.

Our house is on well water. For several months now, the water, whether hot or cold, will suddenly stop flowing if there is more-than-average demand, such as a bath, washing clothes, or leaving the hose on....

Hi,
Chances are that the problem is not in your well pump.
He is what you need to do.
Turn the power off to your well pump.
Drain all of the pressure (water) from your system.
Find the pressure switch by your tank that turns the well pump on and off. Usually it is on the tank tee right where the pipe comes out of your tank.
Unhook the wires from the presure switch, taking time to label them so you know exactly where to put them back again.
carefully turn the pressure switch off of the pipe nipple.
Turn the pipe nipple out of the tee.
Clean all of the crude out of the bottom of the pressure switch and the nipple.
This crude is what is causing the delayed reaction in the pump.
Reassemble everything as it was and repower the pump.
You should be good to go now.
If not, then turn off the power again.
Turn the nut on the tallest center screw of the pressure switch down about 1 turn. This will make the pump kick on slitghly sooner, but only do this after checking for **** in the pipe nipple.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

Carver cascade 2 No water at all comes out of the hot water outlet. The inlet non return valve has been changed & is working correctly.

Check the tank drain valve for water there. If you get a good water flow there you know the tank is getting water pressure.Check the first outlet downline from WH and if there is no water there you have a blockage or other problem. If you have to turn off water to tank, remove the outlet pipe ,and check for water flow from tank with in valve on.If no flow, tank is plugged up.
Hope this gets you going.

Loud bang, sounds like the motors going to drop out when the compresser kicks on,17 years old, relpace/repair

The actual internal motor in the compressor dome is mounted on springs. Over time these get weak and hence the loud bang noise when the motor hits the sidewall of the compressor housing. It is not too serious and will probably work for ages. Just anoying. Leave it until it really packs up.

Maytag Neptune model # mah6500aww: makes banging noise and causes machine to move

A loud banging sound in the pipes is usually caused by a water hammer effect. Water hammer sounds are caused by a valve closing in the system, and yet the water in the pipe is still flowing because of its kinetic energy. The banging happens as the water hits the valve that prevents it from going any further. If the kinetic energy is great enough, it can actually cause a pipe to burst or explode at the end. If a valve is closed near the beginning or in the middle of a system, the water keeps flowing after that point, and it can actually create a vacuum. This vacuum can cause a pipe to implode if the stress is too great. Roaring type noises may be coming from a spin bearing. This bearing probably had the grease washed from it because of a tub seal leak.
Squeaking sounds in a new washer are usually caused by the new parts getting broken in, and will usually go away after several washes.
The sounds of water gurgling, slurping, or sloshing during a spin cycle are usually caused by the drain pump pushing the water out of the washer tub.
Too much water pressure can cause a whistling or squealing sound. Adjust the hot and cold intake water valves to relieve this sound.
Metallic clinking sounds during spin or agitation may be the result of drive train components meshing during speed changes or after a pause.
Swishing or swooshing type of sounds may be caused by water and suds trapped between the tub and basket during a spin cycle, and will usually clear up as the water is drained from the washer
