Hello, the good news is the water is coming from the pump and is easily replaced, the bad news is if you are seeing a yellow oily substance your transmission has a leak and will go bad at some stage soon. The question here you need to ask yourself is do you want to spend $35 on a new pump when your going to need to buy a new washer? If so pull the machine out and puch it back so it leans against the wall umder it's own weight. wedge some thing underneath the washer so you can access the bottom without the washer falling on you. you will see the pump attached to the motor which is attached to the transmission. remove the 2 clips and 2 pipes from the pump, remove the pump and replace it, reassemble in reverse order, you should be able to see where the leak came from the pump at the point where the motor shaft connected to the pump. Also while you are under there look at the base of the transmission, you should see some oily residue where the transmission fluid is leaking. Hope this helps! if you have any other questions please feel free to comment again. Good Luck!! Mike

Greasy marks on clothes in top loading washing machines can also be caused by...

90% of greasy marks on cloths is due to scum build in the outer bowl of your machine...top loaders being the most vulnerable. prevention is better than cure. At least one hot wash a week on high level. If your machine is an early model one or two with a good bleach subject to manufacturers instruction...bleach is very cost effective and works well.

GE WSXH208FWW washer leaving spots on clothes

If you are getting round dark spots on your clothes after washing, the problem would be cause by a bearing seal leak. What happens is water leaks pass the seal into the bearings, and the grease leaks back into the wash water. To fix it would require the machine to be literally taken completely apart to get to the bearings. Very costly to repair. Sorry.

Stains on clothes after washing. Appears to possibly be oil residue. Is there a rubber seal or part that may be leaking inside the drum?

This could be a couple of things
1....oil from the transmission.
this is not common so lets leave this one
2.....the use of fabric softener causes greasy marks on clothing after a while
Fabric softener reacts with soap and can form a greasy jell. it can be yellow oily color or black.
You will know if you have been using fabric softener.
Stop using it straight away.
To clean oty the machine if it were mine I would put a packet of epson salts in with hot water and let the comp[lete cycly go.
Foe awhile use the machine with caution as this may release build up of grease which can stain further clothing until it is all gone.
The make and model of the washer is needed for an accurate diagnosis.

Dark greasy stains after washing

When the seal starts to fail, this oil floats up into the wash water
in the form of small black drops. The stains are almost impossible
to remove from clothing. Also, as the oil is leaking up, hot soapy
water is leaking down into the transmission, which will eventually
cause it to fail.

The seal wont be difficult to replace, but to get access to it you have to
basically disassemble the whole machine. The hardest part was pulling the agitator off the shaft - I
use a slide hammer puller. I'd start by pulling the agitator off and
see if you can access the transmission seal that way - perhaps yours
will be easier than mine was.

My washing machine is ruining our clothes

The oil from the bearings is leaking. Maybe (not sure about this) the bearings are breaking.

This issue requires major repair, so you may need to contact a service technician. If the appliance still under warranty, contact the manufacturer so they can assist you with the repairs.

Does my belt need replaced?

If it is greasy and not oily, the belt will need to be replaced, there is slight possibility that the bearing seal under drum is leaking oil,

Okay...what you are talking about is a honey colored oil, right? The gearcase (transmission) is filled with this oil. Sometimes the gearcases are prone to leaks. There is a small breatehr hole onthe top of the gearcase housing that oil will sometimes weep out of when it expands. This could be a potentially serious problem, as a leaky gearcase COULD mean it is beginning to fail. But...not always. This is kind of a gray area when it comes to this model washer. As leaking oil is generally considered a bad thing, the gearcase could actually run for quite a long time and experience no failures, or further leaks. I would keep the oil cleaned up and run the washer as you normally would. If the leaking becomes progressively worse, the tub begins to spin slower than usual, requires assistance to spin, clothes aren't spinning dry enough, or if the gearcase starts to exhibit loud noises, stop using the washer and plan on needing a replacement gearcase. They generally run about $150 and can easily be installed by the DIYer. If you wish to pursue that as an option sometime, just let me know and I can provide you with the steps required to do so. At this point, monitor what you have and let me know how much the gearcase is leaking.

As far as the water leaking is concerned...you need to determine WHERE it is coming from. If it is leaking in the center under the wash tub in the location of the gearcase, the tub seal probably needs replaced, or you may have a crack in the tub somewhere. If the washer is leaking near the front, this is generally a sign of a leaking water pump, or associated hoses. Check to make sure the hoses are clamped snug. If the washer is leaking in the back somewhere, I would suspect a leaking water inlet hose, or drain hose. The best way to make the determination is to place a sheet of cardboard under the washer when it is empty. Do a load of wash and pull the cardboard out when done. Note where the leak patterns are and get back to me. I need to know where the water is coming from before I can give you a correct assessment. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.

You bet, the tub seal is out and also the clutch and drive tub assemblies need to be replaced because like a drum brake oil has contaminated the pads. Did you notice that if you open the lid while spinning that it takes longer than seven seconds for the basket to stop? See the pic below, you need parts 1 and 5 plus the tub seal and center post seal.
