18hp Briggs & Stratton twin cyl, vertical crank, built into a Murray ride-on mower 1996 model 18ic/46. Where can I get info on this?

There is a hole through the pulley that the crankshaft goes through and is keyed with a square key stock, from underneath you will insert at least a 6 inch extension with a 5/8 socket on the end, the bolt will turn counter clockwise, it is fine thread so do not misplace it. Some times some oil and heat is needed to get the pulley loose, I unbolt the engine from the tractor and jerk it straight up as hard as I can and as many times as needed to get it off. Try not to bend the belt grooves with a hammer and pry bars as they are not all exactly the same and can be a chore to find another one.

I have a Murray 17.5 HP Twin 46" automatic drive riding mower that only moves very slowly. What are possible causes?

If the transmission is hydrostatic and has some hours on it, the transaxle may be going bad. If this has been getting worse as you use it. If the problem happened suddenly, could be a belt loose or stretched.

18hp twin cylinder Briggs & Stratton backfire

Check to see if the carb is clean, if so the anti diesel value could not be working. Apply 12 volts to value and see if it move's. If that works then you may what to check the fuel pump and see if it pumps. After you tried all that then you may have change the main jet size because these engines come with a small jet for the EPA.

Need older 18hp b@s hrizontol shaft motor

If you don't run it any longer you make be able to replace the connecting rods and clean the aluminum from the rods off crankshaft with a very fine emery cloth. A clyliner hone and a new set of rings would also be needed.providing the cylinders arent scored. A gasket set and parts would probably set you back about 100 to 150.
