Question about Bernina Sewing Machines

Open Question

Bernina 630e motor reboots itself when I press on the pedal. It was working perfectly until it wasn't -- in the middle of a project.

I am able to get stitches by turning the hand wheel, but the motor reboots every time I depress the foot pedal. I've looked for lint and threads in the bobbin housing and under the stitch plate but didn't see any. There is no longer a Bernina Dealer in my area... Any suggestions??

Are you sure you have the bobbin the right way round in the holder....when you look at the bobbin and tug the thread, the bobbin should move clockwise.
Pull out the foot pedal and use bsr2 with the start/stop button.
Bring bobbin thread to top of work before starting to sew. This may help knotting problem

Make sure that you use the F foot when using decorative stitches.

The stitch balance my be off. Remove the accessory bin and you will see a large plastic screw with a + and a - and an arrow. Using a coin, turn the arrow to the center and test. Turn the arrow towards the + to stretch the pattern out.

If this doesn't work, it must me calibrated internally and requires an experience hand.

I had this same problem, on my Designer Diamond. I blew it out with an air can and that didn't work, but then I decided to turn it off, then back on and start sewing a line in reverse. That seemed to fix it. My machine is working fine now.

Bernina 1030 starts by itself and runs very slowly some time after parking the needle at the top

This is most likely a fault in the foot control. Normally supplied with this machine is a Type 10 and this can be fixed quite easily but probably not by the machine's owner unless you have some electrical and mechanical experience.

If you have knowledge of and access to a multimeter, you can test it. What working properly, you will find the following:
Pedal released: resistance is infinite (anything around 4k Ohms or less and the machine will run).
Heel pressed: resistance is about 10k Ohms.
Toe steadily pressed from nothing to all the way down: resistance is infinite then after a small depression, jumps to about 4k Ohms steadily decreasing to zero as the pedal reaches all the way down.

Your problem, being at the point where the pedal isn't pressed suggests that there's some contamination in the pedal. It's also possible that you have a type 365 pedal (as used on the 930) and this is more likely to give this kind of trouble due to the use of carbon brushes in this foot pedal.

I hate this model. No matter how many times I have it serviuced, I keep having problems with the top thread breaking - at the start of the st8itching or in the middle. No discedrnible reason is present....

Possible reasons:

Hook timing is incorrect
Gap between hook and needle incorrect
Needle bar is not at correct height
Feed timing is incorrect
Needs a new hook
Lint or thread hiding between upper tension discs
Lint hiding under bobbin case tension spring

If you feel that your Bernina dealer has not solved the problem, contact Bernina a arrange to send it to the factory and they will solve it once and for all.

Ask them to replace the I/O print and make sure its upgraded to the latest firmware, also have them check or replace the motor depending on when you bought your machine these could be under warranty.

Bernina Activa 135 foot pedal problem

If you can get acess to or borrow another foot pedal to try I would do this first any of the Activa, Artista range fit to try. The fault may not be in the foot pedal but in the main CB of the machine. This can give a fualt of lights on but no motor drive. In this case the board would need replacing by a technician. Hope this may help.
