SOURCE: My lincoln welder lost its heat penetration

It only produces 100amps. You can only weld thinner metal 3/16" comfortably. Any thicker will resuld in less/no penetration.

Is the mishto an ok welder for the hobbiest

There are several models and they look nice, they are not heavy duty units. They can weld up to 1/4 inch or about 5 mm. The thing you want to look for is duty cycle. That machine has 60% duty cycle at 160 AMPS. That means you can weld for 6 minutes at 160 Amps before you have to let the machine cool off.

I have no gasflow it sounds as if the gas is leaking at the feed rolls

there is no seal at the feed rollers around the wire as it requires the correct gauge wire and feed hole to slow down the loss of gas at that point ( easier for the gas to escape up the wire housing and out the welding end )
the gas is allowed to flow when the welding trigger is operated as that opens a gas solenoid that allows gas to the welding wire tube to exit past the shroud around the welding point

read you user manual well to be acquainted with the machines operation, and if there is a persisting problem talk with your supplier and consider a warranty service check

I have just bought a Gasless Mig Welder and someone has said its only used for tacking. Is this right?

wrong
gasless mig welders are used the same as gas /wire migs
the only difference is the polarity of the leads to the hand piece and the work ground and this is indicated by the plug in the machine for the ground lead
what the "someone " would have been referring to is the duty cycle of the unit
every welder has a duty cycle because of the heat generated in the welding process by the electronic components and transformers and if that duty cycle is exceeded the machine stops working until it cools down or damages the circuits
it is stated as a % of time in use so a unit with a 20% duty cycle means that for every 20% of use it has to cool for 80% of time
as an example ---if you were using a stick welder, the time taken to burn the stick would be 20% and the time taken to insert a new stick and clean the slag off the weld to resume the process would be the 80%
It also depends on the amps being used for the weld
on a machine with 120amps capacity and you were using 15 amps to weld sheet metal--body panels - the length of welding time will be considerable compared to using 115 amps where the weld time would be a few minutes
there are plenty of helpful hints in the operators manual and other technical publications on line

I have a mishto 220 mig tig mma I can get the arc to work fine but the mig there's no arc at all the machine sounds like its welding but no arc at the gun I'm using gassless wire I thought it may be an...

They told me at welding school the mig transformer has a different slope (whatever that means?) to the tig and mma transformer so I am a little surprised at your question. The implication is two transformer are needed for the three types of welding and for tig and mig a dc converter and also for dc mma welding.

From your description it seems as though welding current is not arriving at the tip of the mig torch or the current is arriving in the wrong form.
You say the mma is fine but you didn't say whether it is fine on ac welding, dc welding or both. I have not tried mig welding with ac and have no idea whether it would be successful but I imagine a lot of sparks and not much welding. The problem could be the rectifier unit is either not working or is switched out of the circuit.

Polarity is important too with dc tig and mig welding.

I hope this provides food for thought.

I just bought a mishto 220amp 3 in 1 welder, didn't come with user manual!@!.. the arc (mma) works fine but can not get the mig working.

I found a forum addressing the welder you mentioned. They are amused, as you will be, by the manual. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11148130/MishtoWelder/MIG200.pdf
It is ridiculously useless. Try taking your welder to a high school shop teacher or find a local hobbyist welder -- because welding supply stores hate these Chinese boxes that cut into their sales and will not be helpful.

Rossi 220BZ Gas/Gasless Inverter Welder MIG MAG ARC Portable Welding Machine

The Rossi 220bz mig welder comes set up to use gas welding, that is with the Mig electrode connected to the positive terminal, inside the machine.
To use gasless mig wleding, the mig wire must be disconnected from the positive terminal inside the machine and reconnected to the Negative terminal - inside the machine. Open both the side coveres of the welder using a phillips screwdriver. Use a 13mm spanner to undo the hex nut holding the thick copper Mig lead to the terminal named positive, then lead it through the machine to the terminal on the oppisite side of the machine, labelled negative and screw it in place there with a 13mm hex screw. Be carefull not to bump any of the many electric parts inside the machine.
If you run the Mig welder in gasless mode with positive earth and positive elecrode it will blow the household electric fuse.
If you run the Mig welder in gasless mode with negative earth and positive electrode it will work, but the end of the Mig gun tip will get very very hot and start smoking abnormally from excessive heat.
But if you take the side covers off and rewire it (takes about 10 minutes) to negative Mig Electrode, the Mig gun tip remains cool and does not overheat. You will have to cut just one white cable tie, to get an extra inch or so of free Mig cable, so the thick copper Mig lead will reach accross to the terminal on the other side of the machine named negative. Stick the earth lead at the front in the positive terminal.
I did this on my Rossi 220bz mig welder.

Instruction manual for use

If you have the user's manual there is some rudimentary information there. If you have a local welding supply company, their catalog may contain general information.

The short of it is you will need to develop a feel for your machine. When you start with scrap of the same size as what you will be welding on, select your heat setting for the matel thickness, and strike an arc- nothing fancy all you are going to do is adjust your wire feed rate until the weld sounds like fring bacon only as quiet as you can make it.

once you have that setting run a bead on a corner weld or a **** weld and look at the back side- if it the weld achieved full ***********, and looks like the top side- you have it set right. Ideally the weld pool will only be twice in width as the thickness of the metal to be welded in most situations. Neithert undercut nor excessively proud of the surface.

if you have the model number and make, find the homepage of the manufacturer (except Century) and download their user manual for that make and model of yours.

What is the basic technique in welding

Hi:
Well don't know were to start, basic technique goes according with the type of metal to weld and type of wire to use.
I think if will be better if you read the basics of welding with MIG machines with an owner's manual. Check the link and go to section B-7.
