Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

We bought a house w a Pentair NG pool heater installed in 2015. 3 times, the heater has turned on (seemingly) by itself. Ive read the owners manual, and there doesnt seem to be an auto-on function.

We KNOW we did not accidentally leave the heater on. Last week, after finding the heater on, I turned it off and set the thermostat to 65 degrees. Today it was on again, and set at 75 degrees.

My mastertemp heater has a error 5 reading. Heater starts, then it shuts down after about 10-20 seconds.

This sounds like the flame rectifier (flame sensor) Below is a link to the manual to trace the part and also to get the part number.

I just purchased a Master Temp 400 for my pool. The installer is telling me that the normal gas line pressure going into my home is 4 ounces of pressure. I also have a gas 17KW generator and a gas...

The owner's manual and installation manual details exactly how this is suposse to be install. You shoul have a pressure going to the heater of 14 WC (Water Column - more on that elsewhere). if you have already installed a high pressure regulator, then all you need is to send a line from that high pressure line closer to whwre your heater is installed, at that point you will install a low presurre regulator and should be able to adjust the pressure required by your heater. That is what they call a two stage gas regulators installation

Brand spankin' new Master temp 400 NG,won't heat past 77° spa is set at 101°,pool at 88°, does heater pool/spa temps have to be manually set to max(104 i assume) for intellie touch to...

if the intellitouch is properly wired to the heater, it should all be automatic and you should be able to control it all from the remote.

there should be three wires connected to the circuit board behind the manual control on the heater (labeled "POOL", "SPA", "Common"). Those are the wires that the intellitouch uses to communicate with the heater.

You can download manuals from the Pentair website.

I HAVE A PENTAIR MASTERTEMP 400000 BTU NAT GAS UNIT, NEW ON NEW POOL. IT WONT LIGHT, THE PLUMBERS RAN 1 INCH LINE TO UNIT AND STEPPED IT DOWN TO 3/4 3 FEET FROM UNIT, THERE IS ALSO A 3/4 INCH REGULATOR,...

Generally speaking, too small a gas line will not inhibit the heater from lighting; it just won't burn efficiently and you will likely shorten overall heater life due to burner corrosion and soot buildup on the heat exchanger. Unless the total run of pipe to the heater is under 20' the pipe should have been 1-1/4" or larger, depending on what type of pipe was used.

That said, you should probably contact Pentair to arrange for a warranty service call to examine why the heater is not lighting. If the tech sites installation issues, be sure to get it in writing so you can go back to the plumbers for corrective action.

Contact Pentair. Select service providers and heaters and you should find someone local...

In case you do not have it, here is your owner's manual.
