My laptop is very slow

Hello there,
When a laptop tends to be performing very slow. There are different factors that could be contributing to the problem. It acting sluggishly tends to be quite annoying, frustrating, time consuming and not encouraging to use.
The cause could be from the RAM size, the RAM is what determines the speed of the laptop, if it is large, it will perform faster but if it is low, it will perform very slowly. RAM can be upgraded, and that involves you turning the laptop to the back and unscrewing it open, you will see a processor connected to the mother board, that is the RAM, check the size and try to replace it with a larger RAM.
Also, if there is a virus on the system, it can contribute to making the IBM perform slowly. Try to install AVG anti-virus free edition 2011 on the system. That will help you eraze the corrupted file and protectyour laptopfrom being exposed to any virus of any kind.
Ensure you are not running on windows vista or windows 7, try to ensure you are running on windows XP, as the IBMs mother board will act sluggishly if windows vista or windows 7 is the current operating system.
Be sure not to have too many load on the hard disc also. Try to ensure you are using an external hard disc for the laptop to save large files. As saving too many applications and folders on the hrd disc can make the laptop act very slow.
Would be glad to know if this information washelpful to you. All the best. Elect_Comp

Why is my laptop so slow? And how do i reboost my laptop without a c.d

> Why slow?

1. dying disk-drive, that takes a few attempts to read each file;
2. not enough RAM to run "too-many" simultaneous programs;
3. computer-virus;
4. slow Internet connection.

> without a C.D. ?

Either telephone Toshiba, and order a replacement CD, identical to the one they supplied when you bought the computer. Or, look for a program installed on your computer that you use to "burn" new CD/DVD disks, to create the "System Recovery" set of disks.

I have a lenovo 3000 c100 laptop. But it is very slow. It has only 253MB of ram. How much capacity of ram can i connect to this laptop?

There are a number of possible reasons can cause your Lenovo computer running slow than it used to, it is hard to identify just what might be dragging down its performance, let alone implement the necessary technical adjustments to fix it.

So if you want to address the issues without adding more hardware, I'll recommend you try a Lenovo speed up software, available here:

Slow performance

System resources at 75% on idle only gives you 25% to work your notebook. Sony VAIO PCG-K25 Laptop 2.8 GHz Pentium 4, 512 MB RAM should be plenty to run most OS and programs. The OS, software and accessories attached to your laptop are utilizing 75% of your resources on startup. You may want to do some maintenance, check your processes on startup & carefully remove any not being used, check your networking usage, good antivirus & spyware cleaning, clean & defrag your hard drive, remove some of your files & programs,and upgrade your memory.

Do I understand the write speed in a notebook is slow?

The main reasons I can think of that slow down a write is mostly lack of memory either RAM or free hard drive space (an image is formed on the drive to be written to disc unless its "on the fly" (direct disc copy).
That notebook may have a very older limited chipsets and CPU's which are not fast as other versions so moves at a speed it can cope with.
Notebooks are by definition lesser laptops, which tend to be fitted with older slower parts to be able to be sold at much lower prices.
Now if this notebook has XP and 1.5Gb of RAM my first thought is to increase this to 2Gb if it can support it, memory is cheap for older machines on ebay etc.
XP can use a fair chunk of memory if it has antivirus etc loaded with several Gb of swap file on the hard drive so takes time to move things around, needing more faster memory
I would check it has no virus or malware problem that can slow things down malwarebytes is good for the malware and is free.
Then I would look at how much free space there is on its hard drive because if this is small, say less than 25% then this will cause problems and may need a larger one.
Run scan/checkdisk followed by defragmenting to sort out any file problems that may bother XP so tidy things up make files easier to find.
Lastly in the systems folder locate the performance option and select maximum which will turn off all XP's "bells and whistles" to become a blander but faster system.

Hope this helps........

Run your disk defrag after taking off your files. Also, get more ram so the machine doesn't use the hard drive for virtual memory as much.
