From Home, tap the Menu Menu icon
icon, and then tap Settings.
Tap Registration.
Choose the Amazon account you want to use on your Kindle:
If you already have an Amazon account: Tap this option. Enter your Amazon account information. Tap Register. Your name will appear as the Registered User when registration is complete.
If you do not have an Amazon account: Tap this option and follow the onscreen instructions to set up a new Amazon account

contact amazon.com to close your account there

Steps To Add Device To Amazon Kindle Account

1. From Home, tap the Menu icon and then tap Settings.
2. Tap My account.
3. Choose the Amazon account you want to use on your Kindle:
   • If you already have an Amazon account: Tap this option. Enter your Amazon account information. Tap Register. Your name will appear as the Registered User when registration is complete.
   • If you do not have an Amazon account: Tap this option and follow the onscreen instructions to set up a new Amazon account.

Register Manage Amazon Kindle Account

log onto amazon.com next to search bar is Your Account. place mouse to bring up list of options. click your account on list. next page right side has all the help desk options. click the one for home. Fill in info there and choose if you want email or phone instructions.

You do not have to cancel your account.
Go to My Account and scroll down the screen a bit until you see 'Settings' in brown text on the left. Looking immediately to the right now, select (in blue text) 'Change Account Settings' (click on that). On the page that appears at the top is a box which offers the option to change about 4 things - one is 'E-mail' - click on the Edit button for that item, and follow instructions.
If you must close your account Amazon say "To close your account, please contact us to request that your account be closed."

You'll need help to close your account. I think any books you bought will stay on your kindle until you delete them. Kindle would have to help you transfer them to his account.
