How do I change the J2 jumper setting in Honeywell thermostat rth230b programmable thermostat? I have electric scooter and gas heat. There appears to be a little black plastic removable piece that goes over the J2 jumper prongs. It has He and Hg listed above and below these prongs. The manual states that since my heat is gas powered I should have it in the Hg setting. So I suppose I should use this little black plastic thing to cover up the 2 prongs closest to the He setting and leave the 3rd prong exposed. The 3rd prong being the one closest to the Hg side. Please help I'm freezing. FYI I have the programmable settings turned off and am attempting to run the thermostat in the manual setting. Even with this I cannot get the tempature of the house to come up past 2 degrees then it turns off, randomly turns off and on and so on. The batteries I just replaced so it's not that either.
The picture I took shows the He prong exposed. I now have it reversed with Hg exposed

SOURCE: Honeywell Programmable Eletronic Thermostat model RTH230B

There are so many products, we cannot help without the model no. Try typing 'Honeywell programmable electronic thermostat' into google and searching for an image of your thermostat, then get the model no. Then you might be able to get some help.

SOURCE: honeywell rth230b won't shut off heat

Sounds like a relay sticking. Possibly in the thermostat or possibly the furnace relay at the furnace. The next time it happens, unplug the thermostat from the wall. If the furnace still runs then it's the furnace relay.

Hope that helps...

Honeywell RTH230B cooling problems...

I printed out the instructions for your thermostat. It looks like you should have the following.

There should be jumper wire between Rh & Rc

Red wire to Rh or Rc whichever is easier since there is a jumper. This is the hot wire and all the thermostat does is connect to route it to the components needed for heating or cooling.

Blue wire, tape it up and don't use it. There is no spot on this thermostat for it. It is only used on thermostats that are powered by the transformer.

White wire to W. Powers the heat relay

Yellow wire to Y. Powers the cooling contactor

Green wire to G. Powers the indoor fan relay

There is a black jumper on the back of the face plate. Look at section 2.4 Setting J2 Jumper in the installation instructions. Make sure you have it in the right position for what you have. If you don't have them just google them.

Hope this helps.

Just installed the honeywell thermostat. the ac turns on, but not the heat. what do we do?

Some of the thermostats from Honeywell require a jumper wire on the thermostat between the RC and the RH connection for the heating to operate. It is possible that your installation needs this jumper wire installed for the heating to work.Verify that this jumper wire is installed if your thermostat requires it. If it requires the jumper wire and you do not have one you can cut a small piece of existing wire on the connections to make a jumper wire. There are also some thermostats with a jumper switch for electric heat and gas heat...make sure that it is on the proper setting.

No heat coming from central heat/cooling system after install

Hi,
Yes add the jumper from the Rc to the Rh terminals. the Rh feeds to the W and that is what turns your heat on!!
Also leave the HG wire exposed you are running elelctric heat so you want the cycle rate to be for electric heat "HE"
And no You do not need the "C" wire with that t-stat, just make sure that it cannot touch any of the other wires or you will burn out your transformer in the heating unit.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

I have Honeywell thermostat (RTH230B). The heat set works well, but cool set does not work. My air condition works well with my old thermostat. What's the problem. Thanks

Do you have an Rh and Rc terminal on t'stat and do you have 4 wires coming into it?
If you do then you need to put a jumper wire from Rh toRc.

Cool air not working with honeywell Model # RTH230B

Do you have a heat pump? If so, not compatible. What i did was move the jumper on the thermostat (RH RE). This is on the inside of the thermostat - NOT the red jumper!!! and got the AC working (the heat had already worked during the winter, problem only became apparent when I needed to use AC). I may have to change the jumper again when the season changes...not sure yet.
