Check first with a service dealer as the shafts would be difficult to break and there probably is a shear pin in the drive to prevent shaft and auger damage
if that is the case you can drive out the broken bit and tap in a new pin( available from the service dealer

How can I remove the auger assembly to remove the augers so I can drill out remaining piece of shear pin?

You could take off the side panels of the Auger Housing and that should allow you to slide the auger off the shaft.
If you rotate the auger to see in the Sheer pin hole, can you see the remaining part in there? Sometimes the Pin will sheer AND the auger will rotate on the shaft a little bit which prevents you from getting a new pin to pass all the way thru both the auger and shaft. Make sure this did not happen in your case. I'm surprised you cannot get a Drift and knock the remaining piece of pin all the way thru. Again, make sure you issue is that the pin is stuck and not that the auger shifted a bit

I have an older traeger and it doesnt seem to heat up on high mode. it has 2 fans and both work but one seems to knock now and again. when i cook chicken on high it will take 2 hours to cook.

The Traeger website at http://www.traegergrills.com/ has an FAQ about grills not reaching the appropriate temperature and how to adjust the augur to fix the problem. Here's what they say:
Q. I've been noticing that my grill temperature keeps dropping lower. What is the problem?

A. You need to "true" your auger. To do this:

  1. Run the unit out of pellets.
  2. Remove the allen screw and nut out of the auger and motor shaft.
  3. Try spinning the auger shaft over the motor shaft. The auger shaft should spin freely over the motor shaft without binding.
  4. If the auger binds, loosen the 7/16th inch bolts on the motor bracket and move bracket until you can rotate the auger shaft over the motor shaft. Then re-tighten 7/16th inch bolts. Make sure auger shaft still rotates over motor shaft, or repeat step 4 again until it does.
  5. Reattach auger and motor shafts using the screw and nut which you removed in step 2.
Hope this helps

On smoke setting my temp goes up over 300 degrees

Traeger suggests realignment of the augur for grills that are not getting hot enough. I wonder if this might be the same solution for grills that are getting too hot.

Here's their solution which I copied from the Traeger website at http://www.traegergrills.com/.

I've been noticing that my grill temperature keeps dropping lower. What is the problem?

You might want to contact Traeger at their website to verify that this is a solution for overheating. In the above case, the improperly aligned augur was not dropping enough pellets in the firepot. In your case, it sounds like it may be dropping too many. This sounds like a routine maintenance thing that ought to be done periodically anyway.

Traeger bbq problems

This is a common problem if you're trying to cook when its cold outside. Traeger sells insulating blankets for grills that are being used at 35 degrees or less. However, it could be an augur alignment problem that's keeping the augur from dunping enough pellets in the firebox. Here's Traeger's FAQ for that problem.

You probably should contact Traeger customer service at http://www.traegergrillscom to confirm that this is your problem.

Treager BBQ will not get hot at all.

Ensure your fire box is cleaned out and ventilation holes at the base are not obstructed. Ensure the induction fan is operating and moving air into the fire box.

According to Treager FAQ:

Snowblower auger stopped with a bank

Check the belt that is used to drive the auger because it probably broke. If there is no belt check the drive shaft to make sure there is no a broken shaft.

The 2 rotating parts in the front that the snow is sucked into the machine, only half of it is rotating the other is not moving at all this causes the snow to pile up in front. whats missing or broke?

There is a shear pin that is broken.it looks like a bolt that is designed too break if you hit something that is hard and won,t break up.while it is not running rotate the side of the auger that is not turning untill the holes in the auger and the shaft line up then put new shear pin through auger and shaft.

Auger wont spin.

sounds like you broke the shear pins? They are bolts that run through the auger/shaft and should be gold in color. DO NOT replace them with anything but a shear pin that is made for your machine. Simply use a small punch to remove what is left in the hole and line up the shaft with the auger and install the new pin.....
