Question about Whirlpool LGR3624JQ Gas Dryer

How do I remove the igniter coils on a Whirlpool gas dryer?

The two-conductor coil tested bad, and I have the new one, but can't get the screws off that secure the bracket near the top of the coils. How do I remove the coils?

Thanks

I've tried using a ratchet and socket with a phillips bit in, and the head of the screw was starting to get chewed up so I stopped. Maybe a little WD-40 is in order?

I use a 1/4" ratchet and socket , with a small phillips bit in some , and a 9/32 socket in others , to remove the 2 screws .

It is way easier if you remove the drum. The 2 phillips screws come off and the bracket lifts right off. Yank out the connectors and replace them coil. No way ye can screw em up either. Check out the PIX

Ge adora gas dryer works fine for the first 8 minutes then will not ignite. hear a fluttering noise before the igniter glows. feel the problem might be the igniter coils

most likely you have bad gas coils.when the coils are on there way out they work fine until they heat up then they fail.the coils are what opens the gas valve, they are located on top of the gas valve, remove the 2 phillips screws, remove the cover and change out the coils.simple job

My dryer works but will not heat up

Hello Friend, Your problem is very simple to fix. You're dryer needs a thermal fuse and or gas valve coils, and maybe an igniter all three are very simple and affordable to replace. To replace the thermal fuse just remove back cover of dryer and look down where the air blows out. Now, just to the left where all the wires are you will see a white plastic part with two wires plugged into it. This part is called a thermal fuse. Just remove these wires and replace the thermal fuse. Now, if this don't solve the problem you will need a gas valve coil kit. To replace coils just remove front of dryer body and look below drum you will see the gas valve. The valve coils are located on top of valve (two little round black cylinders). It's simple, just remove the two screws from the little metal bracket that holds them down, unplug the wires from them and just lift them straight up off of the valve. Take notice that one has 3 wires and one has 2 wires. Just replace with new coils and plug wires back in and re-fasten metal bracket. Your dryer will run like new, if it doesn't then you will need to check the igniter. The igniter is attached to the end of the burner assymbly by one screw and a simple two wire plug. Inspect for breakage, and replace if needed. Happy to help, Tim. And please don't forget to give me your rating for my help.

Gas dryer will not stay warm for long

Hi, You will need to replace the coils on top of the gas valve.
There is a small plastic cap that you can remove in the lower front panel. Start the dryer and see if the ignitor glows and shuts off before the gas ignites. If this is the case, the coils need replaced. This is a very common issue with the gas dryer.
Here is how to change the coils:
UNPLUG the dryer. This model you need to remove the two screws under the lint screen. Now use a flat blade screw drive and insert it in the gap between the top and the front panel and pry the top up. Now locate and remove the screws on the inside of the front panel in upper corners. The front should lift off. You will see the two black coils on the gas valve. When you remove the three wire coil, make sure the sleeve inside it gets put back on the post the coils slides onto.
If I can assist you further, please let me know.

Thanks
Vic

No heat, blowing cold air

Hi, You will need to change the coils. They get weak later in cycle and will not open the valve.
Does the moise accur when the gas ignites in the first part of the dry cycle. It is possible the gas valve is starting to go bad but, it is not very common.

Whirlpool gas dryer rotates, gas ignites but goes out, won't reig

coils on the gas valve, especially the single coils that whirlpool uses, break down after use. They may ohm out good when cold and the burner may light 1, 2, or 3 times, then you get ignition failure. Coils are bad. Hint when replacing coils. the front coil which has 3 terminals has a metal sleeve inside the coil. Make sure that sleeve stays with the valve. It can get stuck in the old coil and thrown away. Good luck
