Question about Emerson Pool & Spa
This is an Emerson 1595 - If left unattended the motor gets hot, smells, and shuts down. It has run for continuously after we get it started and warms the water but it does not always restart when temp drops.
These are hard Motors to fix and need an experienced mechanic, centrifugal switches can have the wrong springs or spin on the shaft, capacitorS can be weak or faulty causing runability issues.
When I have one of these I KNOW what to look for and can simulate a load this helps keep customers happy and avoid warranty work.
It could be a dirty start switch, and that's a free repair at my shop. as it only takes a few seconds to diagnose/fix.

If it has the little oval off/on button, it sounds like the control box or off/on button is bad. If you have access to the pump assembly, follow the pump power cord to the little black box (zip tied to a tube up high), this black box has a small cable that goes to the off/on button. unplug the pump from the box and plug the pump into the power outlet. it should run continuously. If it runs, you need a new control box or /offon button. Buy the off/on button first, as this button is prone to water getting into it, and costs less than the control box.

If it is a air button that pushes in and comes back up, there is a good chance that the switch (which is mounted on the pump/motor) is bad. If the switch is a touch button on a key pad, the problem is in the control box for the pump/motor.

I had this same problem. I looked at the motor, and on one end (the end opposite where the water comes out) there is a hole in the middle. In that hole is a regular screw tip, which can be used to turn the motor. I filled the tub, inserted a slotted regular screwdriver and turned it about 8 times clockwise, then 8 times counterclockwise. You should see the whole motor turn. Doing this loosened it up, and then it started.
Once it started, all kinds or residue came out, which was probably why it had stopped working. I hadn't used it for a while.
After getting it running I'm going to run some cleaning solution through it, and make sure I run it more often to prevent this in the future.
