I've just connected my Samsun LCD monitor to a new HP desktop. I had been with a Dell. Part of the horizontal as well as vertical data is off the screen. I can't figure out how to adjust it with the buttons on the bottom of the monitor.

you are probably not going to adjust it with the buttons.
You need to go to the video settings in Windows and choose a resolution that fits the screen.
I would be willing to bet that the new screen is not the same aspect ratio as your old one.
You can change resolutions until you find the correct one for your computer and screen.
