How long has it been since being thoroughly cleaned and oiled? Usually, older mechanical machines will slow when the oil turns to glue and begins to bind the moving parts. Frequently, you will also notice that the motor appears to be straining to run the machine. If this is the problem, continued use could damage the motor.

When following manual directions to wind a bobbin, it starts out OK, but after several winds, the thread turns out with little loops on the bobbin. ??? Sylvia

Make sure that you are running the thread through the winder tension guide before it goes bobbin winder. Best to consult your owner's manual.

Also, it helps to slow down the winding process. Slower speed winds the bobbin more consistently and does not stretch the thread as much as a fast speed will.

I have a singer 247 it was sewing really good but started going slower and slower til it stopped could it be the motor

It is more likely that a bushing internally warms up then seizes partially. A good cleaning and lubrication could solve this. To test the motor remove the drive belt and run the motor with no load, see if it slows down if not see idea above.

Where the fly wheel is, take off top cover and oil in that vicinity, or under unit alot of build up ends up there, Worse case is if unit keeps dragging because of sticking metal you can burn motor out, so make sure unit is running smooth without too much tension...

My sewing machine starts sewing good and then it seems to

Providing the machine has been oiled if the machine is still running slow then the chances are the motor is on the way out.

Take it back. This should not be happening.

If you can, bump up a model.

You can find reviews of sewing machines at patternreview.com - note how long the reviewer has used the machine before they wrote the review.
