Could be a valve issue or timing issue. flywheel key may be sheered a little bit causing incorrect firing.

John Deere LT 155, why are small amounts of oil dripping into the carburetor air intake thru he oil breather hose connected to that air intake chamber

the breather hose is the means of allowing the compression by pass gasses to not build up pressure in the sump and it exits into the air inlet system near the air cleaner
for oil to be dripping there indicates
1--excessive oil in the sump
2-- worn rings allowing excessive blow by and boiling the sump oil
3-- incorrect oil used in the sump ( too thin) try a 30w -50 grade

There is a open ended pipe that runs above engine oil intake, the other end has a hose connected to it? mines leaking fluid thinking gas

Catch what is dripping and see if it smalls of gas, oil or water. Whatever it is I doubt it should not be open ended and should have a hose attached to it that goes somewhere.

Sounds a bit like an Oil Breather Pipe at that diameter.

Take a look at these.

My lt 133 john deere mower has gas in oil and back fires. runs 5 min and stops.

It's going to need a carb kit to fix the problem. Make sure your gas cap is venting ok, because gas expands in the summer and can force gas to pass thru carburetor and flood the cylinder then passing down into the oil. Depending on the age of your mower, the carburetor may have a gas shutoff solenoid on the bottom and this may have malfunctioned. Another is a bad float or needle valve which a carburetor kit would fix. A needle kit with bowl gasket may be all it will need. Hope this will help.

John deere lt155 lawn tractor shuts off when it gets hot while mowing, could this be electrical?

I had a similar problem lasy year.
Try this:
As soon as the machine seems to be stalling, loosen the gas cap.
If the engine continues to run, clean the gas cap vent hole(s).

My John Deere stx46 riding mower acts like it becomes starved for gas after using for hour or so. Fuel filter is new, gas line new, coil pack new. Ran fine last year. Filter will be emtpy when dies, then...

Try loosening the gas cap a little...... there is a normally a small breather hole in the top or underside just above the seal which allows a small amount of air to enter into the fuel tank. Sometimes this breather hole gets clogged..... stopping air from entering into the fuel tank as fuel is used. Eventualy enough vacume pressure accumulates inside he tank causing a vapor lock. If you loosen your fuel cap slightly.... this should prevent the problem your experiencing. If it does... try soaking cap in deisel fuel or heating oil overnight, remove and allow to dry prior to re-installing. If the problem persists after a good soak, only option is to replace fuel cap. GOOD LUCK!

When you drive it you can smell oil when it gets hot

Either oil is dripping on ur exhaust pipe and u smell it burning! Or Ur blowback oil/gas is the one ur smelling at, usually on top of ur engine valve cover there is a breather outlet connected with hose and goes thru the air claner housing! The hose might have cracks or been disconnected, check on that! Hope that might help you!
