If its all working ok then i would not worry too much about it.
windows when running will tell you if and when it needs to update.
so maybe if you use it for a bit it might ask you to update or it might just do it its self.

Windows 7 Starter seems to have some limitations. Did you try forcing the Updates and do you have them set to automatically update?

You can click the Defender icon near the clock, click open and then Update.

To Update Windows. Start, Settings, Update and Security.

You can force the newest 2016 Service Pack Rollup Update here

Testimonial: "Thank you for your time. The deal is my daughter brought the Aspire to me as something that was gifted to her. I got past the password and put her in as Admin then started the normal maintenance. Updates says it's never been updated. Defender and drivers the same thing I get stuck in that search for 24 hours. I ran all the troubleshooters, But there is no sign that anything had been maintained for a few years, Without an anti virus I don't want to give it back to her and she was so excited. What say you?"

Go here and force the updatehttps://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3...

Go Add Remove Software and remove Windows Defender, it is not supported for Windows 7, only 8 and above. Reboot computer.

Go here and download Microsoft Security Essentials. That will give her AV Protection.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help...

Forget about updating drivers. Normally not a need and can often cause problems you didn't have before.

Download the free versionof CCleaner and that will help you and her clean up junk from before.

How to fix windows defender for free

The Windows Defender software constantly scans your computer for threats such as spyware that may slow down your computer or try to steal personal information. If the software wasn't installed properly or is conflicting with other programs running on your machine, Windows Defender may not work correctly. To repair the software you either need to download the latest update available for the program, or you need to completely uninstall and reinstall Windows Defender.

Restart your computer's operating system. Double-click the "Windows Defender" icon in the system tray at the lower-right end of the screen. Click the question mark icon at the top of the Windows Defender screen and choose "Check for Updates." Select "Continue" if you are running Windows Vista. Wait for the updates to finish installing and click "Scan." Click "Stop Scan" if the problem persists. Click the question mark icon again and select "Exit Windows Defender." Click "Yes" to confirm you want to close the software. Open the "Start" menu screen and select "Control Panel." Select "Uninstall a Program" in Windows 7 or Windows Vista, or instead choose "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows XP. Click the "Windows Defender" entry and select "Uninstall." Choose "Yes" and restart the computer after the program is removed. Navigate to the Windows Defender installation webpage (see Below). http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=435BFCE7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en&mg_id=10134 Click "Download" and double-click the Windows Defender installation file when it downloads to your hard drive. Go through the onscreen installation instructions. Open the "Start" menu and choose "All Programs." Select "Windows Defender." Click "Scan" to start a new scan for malicious software. Hope this helps

After it checks for updates, it will show you the important and optional updates.
  • Click on "...important updates".
  • Check all the important updates, believe me the computer needs it.
  • Then click the Optional TAB in the left column.
jas247_46.jpg

Hardware updates are shown in this OPTIONAL updates tab.
  • Check all, EXCEPT the Language Packs.
  • Click OK on the lower right corner of that window.
  • Then click on install updates.
I hope this will work for you.

Thank you for using FixYa and have a nice day.

I was running the program "windon Defender" on it and walked away. When I returned the computer was off and wasn't turn back on.

The Windows Defender Application is the Antivirus Software which will be pre-installed with the Windows Operating System(Windows Vista, Windows 7).
The Computer will always Shut down after any Windows Updates or any Operating System Updates are downloaded and installed.
If you are connected to the Internet and running Windows Defender, the Computer will automatically download the Updates for the Windows Defender Application.
Once the Updates are downloaded and installed, the Computer will prompt for a shut down.
The count down will be for 10 seconds.
After 10 seconds, the Computer will install the downloaded Updates and shut down.
This might be the reason for the Computer to shut down while using the Windows Defender.

If the Computer still shuts down randomly, the issue might be due to overheating.
All the Processors in Notebooks are designed to shut down automatically, if there is any overheating issues.
The overheating issue mainly occurs due to the malfunction of the Cooling fan.
If the Computer shuts down frequently, the issue might be due to the above factors.
It would be better to get the Unit examined at the Service Center.

Everything works fine with windows 7 except I can no longer scan anything can this be fixed?

The HP website states that some functionality with your printer model may be lost when using the Windows 7 preloaded drivers or Windows Update drivers. If you have not already done so, running Windows Update, to include optional updates, may supply a more appropriate driver for your printer. You can do this by pressing the Windows (28f534a.gif) icon then All Programs and then Windows Update. Click "Change Settings" to make sure that the "Give me recommended updates the same way i receive important updates" box is checked. After this, run the update to see what comes up. Ideally, you should run everything that comes up in Windows Update except the language packs, especially hardware and important updates.

If you have already done this, there are two methods you can use to scan. I have listed them below.

  1. Click the Windows (3d374c9.gif) icon.
  2. Click All Programs
  3. Click Windows Fax and Scan
  4. Click New Scan, and then click Scan.
Another method is to use MS Paint to import an image from your scanner.

  1. Click the Windows (07d5258.gif) icon.
  2. Click All Programs
  3. Click Accessories
  4. Click the Paint icon
  5. When it opens click the menu (d2c91dd.gif) icon
  6. Click From Scanner or Camera
VOILA! You should be all set!

Good Luck

Windows vista starter update and install failed....

in my experience you need to reinstall your OS, Vista is a pain in the *** where sometimes you cant do anything other than format and start again, though i heard a rumour that "starter" doesnt let you install alot of things, like updates, dont quote me though.

When i want to update an update that needs to be updated

Do you know what the update is that fails? I guess the easiest way to see it is instead of using auto update, use Custom Update and see what needs to be installed.

I have also seen were some people have suggested this is caused by spy-ware on your system. Perhaps a in-depth scan would eliminate that possibility.
Personally I would not worry much about HP updates. The only time I would think of doing such updates is if I were having a problem with my system and an update directly addressed the issue. In fact I would go as far as to remove the HP updater.

Now Windows Updates are a different matter and should be done as they often cover security issues.

The HP Update program (bloatware, in my opinion) doesn't work with Vista very well, even though the system would have been bought with Vista pre-installed.Vista.

If you want to get rid of the HP Updates program, go to the Start menu and into the 'Control Panel'. Select "Programs & Features". The program is called 'HP Update'. You can Uninstall that program there if you like. You can manually check for updated hardware drivers by going to the HP site's Drivers and Downloads area, and entering your Desktop Model Number.

The HP Updates program also seems to have problems with various software/hardware firewalls, particularly when running Windows Vista, preventing it to search for and download optional driver updates for your HP computer.

HP says that hpsudelpacks.exe is a virus which affects mostly the automatic downloading of hp updates. go to their website and download the realtek audio driver manually to see if you can actually download updates to begin with. You should update any spyware or virus program if you have to and then shut down my computer and restart in safe mode. When in safe mode , run windows defender found here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx , then run avg virus program found here http://free.avg.com/download?prd=afe , then restart your computer, click on hp update in my start button area, and you should able to download another update.
