I have a older bosch jigsaw. It was working great then all the sudden it makes a grinding noise and the blade will not move. Any ideas?

They are a good make. I had all Bosch power tools in the UK. Remove the screws, split the case and have a look. Something has come adrift or broken.

SOURCE: blade wont stay in Bosch 1882VS jig saw

From your description I cannot say for certain, but it sounds as though you are not locking the blade correctly, or the blade lock mechanism is broken. You can tell if the blade-lock is working by clicking it. It should make an audible "click" that you can feel. Also, you can pull on the blade ( with the saw UN-plugged of course!) and feel if it is properly seated. If you are operating the blade-lock according to the instructions and it still doesn't lock positively, see a service center before you use the tool again. A broken blade-lock could be dangerous.

SOURCE: Changing the blade in a bosch pst 65 pae corded jigsaw

Pull up the knob on the front at the top of the machine and push the yellow bit forward. Theoretically you should turn the knob anticlockwise three turns but it doesn't seem to make any difference on my one. Then take hold of the blade, ease it forward and turn through 90 degrees. You should then be able to pull it out. Replacement is, as they say in all the best manuals, a simple reversal of the procedure. When you are turning the knob clockwise this time it's supposed to click in place but my one doesn't do this and still seems to work.

Best of luck

In the handle directly over the blade is a deep hole. You insert a long thin bladed screw driver into this hole all the way down. Twist slowly and it will locate with a screw. Undo the screw and then twist the remaining piece of blade 90 deg and pull. Replace new blade in the opposite way. Twist it so that the cut is to the front and then tighten up the screw. Do not tip up the unit while doing this as the screw might drop out and you might loose it

Change blades bosch jigsaw

The one shown in the picture uses a very long and thin, flat blade screwdriver. There is a set screw that puts tension on the blade when the screw is tightened. Bosch sells the correct screwdriver or you can buy a long one and grind the sides down a bit. That's what I did.

Hi Jen,

It depends on whether you have an older or newer model jigsaw. Bosch makes the newer ones with a button you push that will release the blade.
On an older jigsaw, look at the handle from above the jigsaw directly in line with the blade. You should see a screw in the top of the handle. Use a screwdriver and loosen this screw, don't remove it, and when the screw is loose enough, you'll be able to pull the blade out. When you put the new one in, slide it in the slot until it seats.

A rule of thumb is to use the blade with the wider gap and larger teeth on wood, the smaller teeth on metal. Most blades will say bimetal on the metal cutting blades.
Now, the courser the teeth the rougher cut you'll get. So, if you want a nice cut, don't use the blade with the largest teeth. Move down to the next largest.

I don't have a Bosch, so am not sure which codes are for which blades, but you can't go wrong if you go by the size of the teeth.

You didn't say what material the worktop is made of. If it's wood, the second largest toothed blade should be fine.

If you've never used a jigsaw before, I could suggest a couple tips that would help you get a nice job done.
First, put a piece of painters tape or masking tape over where you will cut, draw your line and go easy. The tape will keep the blade from giving you a roughed up top edge.
When you get near the end of the cut, hold a piece of scrap wood flat against the back edge to prevent tearout.
Also, let the saw do the work, don't push it.

Hope this helps, If it does, I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up, Thanks,

DROPPED MY BOSCH 1590EVSK JIGSAW, REPLACED BENT BASE, BUT BLADE IS STILL NOT PERPENDICULAR TO BASE. CAN'T SEE ANY ADJUSTMENT METHOD TO ALIGN BLADE PERPENDICULAR TO BASE PLATE. HELP

The socket-head screw that holds the sole plate on is also the alignment screw. Loosen it a little and the sole plate will swivel left and right. There are graduation marks on the base to help with alignment but I always use a square to verify the alignment. Tighten the screw and check again that it didn't move and you are ready to go.

There are good blades and there are cheap blades. Good blades are straighter but less tolerant of poor technique and so tend to break, cheap blades can and do bend far more. You can keep the blade straighter by not forcing the blade through the work and allowing it to cut at it's own rate and by experimenting with the speed settings on the jigsaw. It also helps if you pick the correct blade for the job: 10tpi is a bit too coarse for ripping a timber batten along the grain but fine for rough cutting chipboard. Also, it's difficult to keep the foot of the jigsaw absolutely level on 2x2 which adds to your problems.

My bosch jigsaw keeps saing sideways!!!

Most Bosch jigsaws have a handle on the top of the main handle that you need to pull up and rotate counterclockwise to allow the screw to accept the blade. Insert the blade and rotate 90 degrees into position then tighten the handle and press back down into place. In the beginning it may seem like you are going to break the handle pulling it up but rest assured it will get easier as it gets used.

could be the yoke inside that is loose, unplug the tool and lock the blade in and see if you can turn the blade by hand. also make sure that you are using the right shank blades and lastly is the locking mechanism fully engaging the blade. Let me know the model number if none of these help and I will look at an explosion for you.
