My avenger starts now, but when its starts a small amount of coolant leaks behind my right front tire. But recently the is also a few drops of oil or other dark greasy liquid... Im trying to figure out how the two leaks go together? and if its only my water pump or something worse?
There are a lot of things that can cause this problem.. but I feel we
are talking about needing a new water pump the water pump is most
likely going out. get this checked out
immediately it can very easily damage your motor by
overheating so find a friend or somebody that knows where the water
pump is located on this car. it will most likely show signs of water dripping around it a sure sign its bad.
this is going to take somebody with a little knowledge in this area to
replace do to the side mount engine I have done this my self it was not that difficult but I do
have the tools and experience to do the job. I will tell you to buy
your water pump from advance auto parts or other reputable parts store
in your area if you go to auto-zone you will be doing it again. as far as the oil leaks it is probably the valve cover gasket that is bad and slowly leaking keep an eye on your oil don't let it get low the oil leak is ugly on your driveway but does not have as large a risk of damaging your engine as the water pump as long as it is a small leak take care of the water pump first then look for your oil leak. I hope this helps
I think that car has a transverse mounted motor. if that is the case, the area that you see coolant is probably coming from the weep hole on the water pump shaft. that is the precursor to a bearing failure. that is where i would look first. if you get coolant on the pass side floor of the car, then it would be the heater core. hope that helps.
